Udhampur, Oct 1: An 84-year-old man from Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir converts a standard bicycle into an environmentally friendly e-cycle that is powered by solar energy and electricity. In Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, 84-year-old Munshi Ram converted a standard bicycle into an electric vehicle. In order to create his e-cycle, he used old laptop batteries and e-waste, drawing inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Vocal for Local" and "Green India" campaigns. People across country respond to PM appeal, participate in hour-long cleanliness drive

30 Kg Heroin Seized In Ramban, 2 Arrested

JAMMU, Oct 2: In the Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, police seized 30 kilogrammes of heroin worth crores of rupees from a car headed for Punjab, according to officials. Following the recovery from the Banihal area along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, two suspected drug smugglers were detained, according to the officials. They claimed that the heroin was being transported from north Kashmir to Punjab by border smugglers. Joint security team foils infiltration bid along LoC, kills 2 terrorists

KUPWARA: In a combined operation with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Indian forces killed two terrorists while thwarting an infiltration attempt in the Machil sector of the Kupwara district, the Army announced in a statement on Saturday night. After the intelligence-based operation, the forces conducted a sweep of the area and found the bodies of the two terrorists. In addition, two AK series rifles and ammo were also found at the scene, according to the Army. The Indian Army, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, and several intelligence agencies provided information about infiltration efforts made by a group of 2-4 terrorists in the Macchal sector of Kupwara, according to the release."On the evening of September 29 and 30, the Indian Army and JKP conducted a joint operation in General Area Gucchi Nar in the Machil Sector. JAMMU: Ramesh Kumar, the Divisional Commissioner for Jammu, presided over a meeting of Deputy Commissioners and pertinent Officers on Saturday to assess the progress made in resolving pending pension cases, the PMAY Urban/Rural programme, Gandhi Jayanti celebrations, and other related matters. The Director General of Social Welfare Department informed the Div Com of the district-by-district situation after reviewing pension case clearances. The Division Committee took serious note of the backlog and ordered the Deputy Commissioners to finish all open cases in two days. The Div Com also examined the land distribution to the landless under PMAY-G/Urban. The number of claims that were received and those that were denied following verification was disclosed by the Deputy Commissioners. The DCs were given deadlines by the Div Com to finish their allotments.The Div Com also went over the districts' plans for organising Gandhi Jayanti celebrations. The Div Com was informed by the Director of School Education in Jammu that competitions for quizzes, paintings, debates, and essays had been planned across all districts. He further mentioned that a Shanti Rally had been organised, which started in Poonch and ended today in Jammu after travelling across all of the districts in the Jammu division. It was disclosed that both professors and kids took part in the Rally. Rail traffic resumes in Jammu after farmers end protest

JAMMU: After protesting Punjab farmers ended their three-day strike on Saturday evening, train service was resumed at the Jammu Railway Station, a senior railway official reported. Hundreds of passengers, including Vaishno Devi pilgrims who were stuck at Jammu and Katra railway stations due to the farmers' strike, were greatly relieved when rail operations resumed. "Five trains were cancelled earlier in the day, but service resumed after Punjabi farmers moved away from the tracks at 4 pm," said senior railway official Prateek Shrivastav.
