JAMMU, Sept 5: Heavy gunfire shook a rural village in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi area on Tuesday as an operation to neutralise a terrorist holed up for more than 20 hours started its second day, officials said. The second terrorist, who had sought refuge inside a home in Gali Sohab hamlet in the Tuli area, is being hunted down despite the fact that one terrorist was killed and two security officials were hurt in the initial gunfight on Monday. They claimed that while security officers reinforced the perimeter around the target residence throughout the night, the intermittent shooting didn't stop. The security forces' attempt to storm the residence this morning was met with intense gunfire, according to the officials, who added that there were no new casualties recorded.Around 2:00 p.m. on Monday, the joint troops of the police, army, and CRPF zeroed in on the residence where the terrorists had sought refuge under cover of darkness between Sunday and Monday. Security personnel arrived to the area after more than four hours of walking after learning of the terrorists' existence, encircled them, and opened fire indiscriminately in an attempt to elude the security dragnet, according to the officials. Hideout of longest surviving Hizbul terrorist unearthed in Kishtwar

KISHTWAR: In the upper regions of Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar area, security authorities on Tuesday discovered a hideout being used by Jehangir Saroori, the organization's longest-surviving terrorist, according to a police officer. According to Senior Superintendent of Police for Kishtwar, Khalil Poswal, the police demolished the hideout in Bhadat Saroor's Paribag neighbourhood after carefully planning an operation with the help of the Rashtriya Rifles and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Saroori is thought to be hiding in the higher altitudes of the Kishtwar district and joined the insurgency in the early 1990s. Abdul Karim Butt, Saroori's brother, was imprisoned on August 3 under the strict Public Safety Act due to his association with terrorism.He called the discovery of the bunker a "significant breakthrough" in the fight against terrorism and claimed that Saroori was believed to have been using it to plot nefarious acts. The officer added that the recovery of these items highlights the significance of this operation in stopping illegal activities in the area. During the search operation, the police recovered two blankets, some edibles, and personal use items from the hideout, indicating the presence of the terrorist.
