Dialogue must for ending bloodshed in J&K: Farooq Abdullah

SRINAGAR: Farooq Abdullah, head of the National Conference (NC), stated on Thursday that if India and Pakistan want to stop the violence and establish a sustainable peace in Jammu and Kashmir, they must sit down for negotiations. War, according to the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, neither brought peace in the past nor will it do so now. If there is no discourse, such incidents will continue. If we believe that the violence will end, we are fools. We will continue to lose people. Dialogue is the only option.After visiting the family of Humayun Bhat, a deputy superintendent of the Jammu and Kashmir Police who was killed in a gunfight with terrorists in Anantnag, Abdullah urged reporters that both countries should put aside their stubbornness and undertake discussions. Bhat and two other security personnel, Major Ashish Dhonchak and Colonel Manpreet Singh, lost their lives in a Wednesday confrontation with militants in the Anantnag district's Kokernag area. When questioned about statements made by some BJP politicians on regaining control of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), Abdullah responded that wars had neither brought about peace in the past nor will they do so in the future. Let them handle it. Who is holding them back? I won't give up.They ought to take action if they believe doing so will solve the issue. Please understand that confrontation is never the answer to a problem. Although Pakistan has fought four wars, the borders have not changed, he continued. Abdullah criticised the BJP-led Centre for asserting that terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir has come to an end. It is a significant loss for both the family and the nation. In addition to this young DSP, you have seen that a colonel and a major have also died as martyrs. Despite the fact that this destruction has undoubtedly been going on for a while, I do not see it coming to an end. The government is declaiming the end of terrorism. Tell me, has it come to an end,'' he enquired. Abdullah reiterated his stance in favour of talks restarting and used the turmoil in Ukraine as an illustration. "Observe the circumstances in Ukraine. Devastation may be seen everywhere. Talks between Russia and Ukraine are necessary to bring about peace,'' he said. The NC president responded, "The talks will have to be between the two countries that are at loggerheads," when asked if he supported holding talks with Pakistan. Talking to me is pointless. This issue has existed ever since India gained its independence. In response to a query concerning Pakistan causing unrest in Jammu and Kashmir, Abdullah stated that the adjacent nation has never agreed to the current situation. How does it affect things? Pakistan has made it clear that they reject it. The UN resolutions are thrown at you. How will you inform them? They are claiming that we reject this choice, he continued. The former Union minister claimed he was not in a position to comment on the origins of these terrorists, but he added that recent events suggest they are well-trained and may come from somewhere other than Pakistan. "I cannot explain where they originate from because I am neither a member of the government nor the intelligence community.…

Militancy Has Not Ended In J&K : Farooq Abdullah

SRINAGAR, Sept 13: Farooq Abdullah, president of the National Conference, stated on Wednesday that until India and Pakistan engage in discussion to find a permanent resolution to all disputes, militancy in Jammu and Kashmir will not cease. "Encounters will continue to occur. It would be incorrect to claim that militancy has ended. These events occurred yesterday and they are occurring today. They will continue to occur until both countries sit down to negotiate a resolution, Abdullah said following a meeting at the party office in this city. Abdullah expressed concern that removing the additional duty on the import of apples, walnuts, and almonds from the US might result in a drop in the cost of local produce."We worry about how this would affect the fruit industries in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal, and Uttarakhand. The farmers, who have invested a lot of money, fear that if local produce prices decline, they would lose money. "I appeal to the government to take this matter seriously so that farmers are not harmed. It wouldn't be good for the nation if they lost, he remarked.The coordination committee meeting of the opposition INDIA alliance is planned to take place in the national capital on Wednesday, but the former chief minister declined to comment on the topic. "On behalf of the National Conference, Omar Abdullah attended the meeting. After the meeting, I'll let you know what was decided," he stated.
