Sri Lanka lose by 10 wickets, Siraj’s fireworks help India lift Asia Cup for 8th time

SEP 17, 2023 : The opening pair of Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan scored a faultless fifty-run partnership as India won the Asia Cup for the eighth time after speedster Mohammed Siraj's ferocious session destroyed Sri Lanka. Siraj, who is the leader of India's fast bowling unit, led his team to victory in the summit match on Sunday at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo by destroying the top of the Sri Lankan order. India finally raised the trophy in style after a little more than two hours. The performance of their team silenced the Sri Lankan crowd. After five years, the Men in Blue finally hoisted the Asia Cup trophy.Siraj bowled a fantastic performance, allowing the entire Sri Lankan team to return to the pavilion for 50 runs after 15.2 overs. Siraj had his finest ODI performance to date, taking six wickets in seven overs. Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan started their innings off Matheesha Pathirana's over with back-to-back boundaries, scoring the first 51 runs required with ease. Gill hit three consecutive boundaries off Pramod Madushan in the third over of the match, raising India's tally to 32/0. On the opening ball of the seventh over, Kishan took a single and confidently led India to a 10-wicket victory. On the third ball of his first over, Jasprit Bumrah made his mark, which established the tone for the game. Siraj followed it up by sending a maiden over to create the ideal backdrop for a spell that stunned everyone in the stadium. Pathum Nissanka was returned for two points by Siraj on the first ball of his second over. When the second ball clocked 143 kph, Samarawickrama made the decision to take it easy. However, the third pitch struck the right-handed batsman hard in the back, pinning his legs directly in front of the stumps, and sending him back for a two-ball duck. Charith Asalanka, Sri Lanka's match-winning player against Pakistan, intervened to save Sri Lanka's innings from collapsing. Siraj enticed him to play the drive shot by baiting and luring him. When Asalanka took the bait, Ishan Kishan at covers received the ball immediately. With a hat-trick in mind, Siraj attempted the inswinging delivery to newcomer Dhananjaya de Silva once more. The ball was despatched for a four with a light push on the empty side of the field. On the subsequent delivery, the pacer returned, discovered a thin edge, and glided easily between Rahul's gloves. A unusual occurrence in ODI cricket, and even more so in a championship game, Siraj finished an over by taking four wickets. He had not yet finished celebrating his 'Sui', either. He utterly destroyed the stumps, beating captain Dausn Shanaka and dismissing him for a duck. For the first time in an ODI, India got six wickets in the opening 10 overs. Hardik Pandya entered the attack to replace Bumrah, who left the attack to join the fire-breathing Siraj. Siraj's next victim was Kusal Mendis, who appeared to be a little at ease on the pitch. Mendis attempted to drive off a quick inswinging delivery but failed due to an inside edge, and the ball destroyed the stumps. Mendis, who made 17 out of 34 balls, turned around and headed back towards the dugout. With both bat and ball, Dunith Wellalage led Sri Lanka against India in their Super Four match, but he failed this time. Hardik joined the gathering to remove Wellalage from it by aiming a bouncer at his body. The batter attempted to move out of the way, but it was too late; the ball lobbed towards the keeper Rahul after touching his gloves.…

SRINAGAR:According to officials, the operation to find terrorists hiding in the Gadole forest region of Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district started its fifth day on Sunday as security forces expanded their operational area to include nearby villages and fired a number of mortar shells at the forest. In order to keep an eye on the dense forest region where terrorists are thought to have taken refuge since Wednesday after killing two Army officers and a deputy superintendent of police in the initial exchange of fire, security forces are utilising drones and helicopters, according to the officials. The security forces reportedly fired three mortar shells towards the woodland as the assault resumed on Sunday morning. They claimed there were many cavernous hiding places in the surrounding woodland, and drones were being employed to locate them in order to launch strikes against them. On Friday, security troops shelled one of these hideouts, and drone footage captured a terrorist scurrying for safety. On Saturday, the Northern Army commander went to the scene of the gunfight to assess the operational situation. Officials : 3 terrorists killed as infiltration bid foiled in Kashmir, Pak Army gave cover fire to infiltrators

SRINAGAR: In an attempt to cross the Line of Control in the Baramulla area of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday that was thwarted with the deaths of three militants, the Pakistan Army provided cover fire to infiltrating terrorists and targeted quadcopters of the Indian Army, officials claimed. Brigadier P M S Dhillon said the operation at Hathlanga in the Uri sector along the LoC was started early Saturday on specific intelligence about infiltration efforts by Pakistan-based outfits while speaking at a press conference in Uri, north Kashmir. "We had received intelligence reports that Pakistani groups were attempting to enter Uri in order to undermine the stability of the peace in Jammu and Kashmir.As a result, we made our surveillance and counter-infiltration grid stronger," he stated. "Despite the terrible weather, an ambush this morning at 6:40 a.m. observed three to four terrorists attempting to cross the LoC in the Hathlanga area. "Contact was made right away, and the firefight went on for two hours," he added. The officer said that to neutralise the terrorists, the army employed rocket launchers, multi-grenade launchers, and under-barrel grenade launchers (UBGL). "We neutralised one terrorist. Two wounded terrorists had altered their course, the ambush party later realised. Around 9.15 am, the ambush party engaged in a second gunfight with them, which lasted for around 30 minutes and led to the neutralisation of the second terrorist, he claimed. The third wounded terrorist, according to Brigadier Dhillon, "exfiltrated" with the aid of gunfire from a neighbouring Pakistani station. "His exfiltration received fire support from a Pakistani Army station, which also fired at us. They also fired at our quadcopters. Our calculations indicate that the wounded terrorist passed away in the general vicinity, roughly 300 metres away from the Pakistani position. The search is still going on despite the terrible weather, he said. The officer claimed that during the operation, three terrorists from Pakistan were neutralised, and the bodies of the other two had been recovered. "This demonstrates how the Pakistan Army supports terrorists and gives them unrestricted access to infiltrate. It also demonstrates the Pakistan Army's role in undermining Kashmir's stability, the man claimed.The security forces also seized from the terrorists Indian and Pakistani money, an AK-47 and an AK-74 rifle, seven magazines, a five-kg IED, some ammunition, a Chinese pistol, and several grenades. According to Dhillon, "We believe they intended to use the IED at some sensitive target, including a pocket of minorities or a security forces facility." The attempt at infiltration and the ensuing encounter occur as part of an operation in the Anantnag district to eliminate terrorists who had set up camp in a forested area with hills as their terrain. On Saturday, the gunfight's fourth day began. [caption id="attachment_2854" align="alignnone" width="300"] Officials : 3 terrorists killed as infiltration bid foiled in…
