JAMMU, JANUARY 26: The main event of the 75th Republic Day celebration was conducted in the High Court Wing in Jammu, when Justice N Kotiswar Singh, Chief Justice, unfurled the national flag and greeted the attendees. This was done by the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. Romalo Ram, Ghulam Dar Selected For Padma Shri Award

JAMMU: The Padma Shri Awards for Ghulam Nabi Dar of Kashmir and Romalo Ram of Jammu have been announced by the Indian government, while Togdan Rinpoche (posthumous) of Ladakh has been chosen to receive the Padma Bhushan Award. As to a pamphlet released by the Union Home Ministry, Togdan Rinpoche has been granted the Padma Bhushan in the Spiritualism category, and Romalo Ram and Ghulam Nabi Dar have been nominated for the Padma Shri Award for their artistic contributions. The awarding of 132 Padma Awards, comprising 110 Padma Shri, 17 Padma Bhushan, and 5 Padma Vibhushan, has been approved by the President of India. Romalo Ram is a well-known Dogri folk singer and dancer from Ramnagar in the district of Udhampur, while Ghulam Nabi Dar is a well-known woodcarver. In Ladakh, Togdan Rinpoche served as the head of the Drikung Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh congratulated Ghulam Nabi Dar and Romalo Ram on their well-deserved Padma Shri awards in a post on X. JAMMU: Director General of Police R R Swain said on Thursday that despite Jammu and Kashmir having a multi-tier security arrangement, the forces have prepared for every eventuality to guarantee a peaceful Republic Day celebration. Officials stated that the army and BSF troops have enhanced monitoring along the India-Pakistan border, and that police and paramilitary personnel have been placed on high alert throughout the region, especially along the roads, at railway stations, bus stands, and critical infrastructure. "We have addressed every potential threat as well as security. We have also prepared answers for every scenario. We will celebrate this day in peace, we are certain of it," Swain told local reporters. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will speak at a gathering at Jammu's M A Stadium on Friday, Republic Day. Additionally, according to Swain, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has won the most gallantry awards. "It is a matter of great pride and joy that police personnel from J&K have been bestowed with 72 gallantry medals on the eve of Republic Day celebrations," Swain told the press. "The J&K Police has once again distinguished itself by competing with other police forces to safeguard the safety of our citizens and defend the homeland. I commend all officers, men, and recipients of awards," he continued.
