Sopore, Nov 14: Following a strange discovery that government workers were running street vending stalls in Sopore, north Kashmir, during work hours, the administration decided to withhold their salaries. The pertinent heads have also been asked to provide an action report. The incident gained attention after the enforcement team was requested to streamline the vendors in the busiest Sopore market by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Sopore, SA Raina, to ensure that commuters experience no inconvenience at all. SHO Sopore was in charge of the group. Two government workers were discovered running the vending machines during their working hours after the incident. Following this, the Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) in question were instructed by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Sopore, SA Raina, to withhold the affected employees' November salaries. He also asked the concerned heads for action reports."The responsible government employees have been identified as Javaid Ahmed Sheikh from Panzulla Rafiabad and Nazir Ahmed Changa from Noor Bagh. They will explain the situation and submit the action taken report," an official citing ADC Sopore said. Nazir works in the Animal Husbandry (Veterinary) department, while Javaid is assigned to the Irrigation and Flood Control (I & FC) department. According to the ADC, the administration is taking the necessary measures to guarantee that government offices are punctual. "These drives will go on in the future as well," he declared, noting that similar instances of neglecting one's responsibilities had previously been documented and were met with severe consequences, including wage deductions. The official went on to say that several employees were discovered to be absent following similar inspections conducted in different government offices throughout Sopore. The administration is taking this seriously, and the concerned DDOs have been instructed to take the amount and credit it to the district Red Cross fund instead of the officials' salaries. He said that in order to guarantee commuter convenience, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Municipal Council Sopore, Tehsildar, and the SHO were instructed to carry out these checks on a regular basis. The official stated, "The CEO MC shall also ensure that only those vendors who are registered at the municipality office would be allowed to install their stalls in the Sopore market." SRINAGAR, Nov 14: The head of the National Conference, Omar Abdullah, asked Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, the leaders of the Congress, to work on lifting the Karnataka government's ban on headcoverings, or hijabs, on Tuesday. Why ought the government to get involved in this? And directives like these are implemented, specifically targeting Muslims. We wouldn't have been surprised if all of this had occurred in Karnataka years ago given the presence of the BJP government at the time. But it is regrettable that choices of this nature are made when Congress is in session. It's really regrettable. After a party function in Baramulla, Abdullah told reporters, "I request Congress president Sonia Gandhi, senior leader Mallikarjun Kharge, and Rahul Gandhi to reconsider the order that has been issued in Karnataka and work on revoking this order." When asked about Jammu and Kashmir elections, the former chief minister stated that the BJP was unprepared to face the electorate. Not only have the Assembly elections been postponed, but so have the municipal elections. Even the Jammu Municipality's tenure is coming to an end, and there is currently no municipality (corporation) in Srinagar. All municipalities will have served out their terms by January. After January, the panchs and sarpanchs will likewise become extinct, he declared. The Central Government once claimed to have established a three-tiered democracy in J&K; however, as of right now, only one tier remains. It is evident. The polls would have been held here if the BJP had believed they would win the elections, he continued. Jammu, Nov 14: In a money laundering case, a court in this city on Tuesday gave former Jammu and Kashmir minister Lal Singh an additional five days in the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) custody. On November 7, Singh, the head of the Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan Party (DSSP), was taken into custody from a home in Sainik Colony's Chawadi neighbourhood after a special court denied his request for anticipatory bail. The ED was looking into him in relation to a case involving an educational trust that his wife, the former lawmaker Kanta Andotra, was running. After his seven-day remand expired on Tuesday, Singh was brought before the special court via video conference, according to special public prosecutor Ashwani Khajuria. "The case investigation is just getting started. Citing the court order, Khajuria stated, "Accused is involved in a serious and non-bailable offence; he is remanded to ED custody for a period of five days only from November 14 to 18."The court instructed the investigating officer to expedite the investigation and ordered the ED to produce the accused on November 18 only via virtual mode. According to Khajuria, the ED has submitted a thorough objection to the accused's post-arrest bail request in the Jammu principal sessions judge's court. The Jammu and Kashmir Agrarian Reforms Act, 1976 imposes a ceiling limit of 100 standard kanals. The money laundering case stems from an October 2021 charge sheet filed by the CBI in this case, which alleged criminal connivance in the issuance of land between January 4 and January 7, 2011, without mentioning details about violation of the act, thereby giving undue pecuniary advantage to trust.Based on this, the CBI charge sheet stated that the trust obtained several parcels of land totaling approximately 329 kanals through three gift deeds that were executed on January 5 and January 7, 2011.
