Lok Sabha Takes Up Discussion On Construction Of Ram Temple

NEW DELHI, Feb 10:  On Saturday, the Lok Sabha began debating the building of a Ram temple in Ayodhya in the midst of DMK members' protests over a matter pertaining to Tamil Nadu fishermen. Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Satya Pal Singh opened the discussion on "the construction of historic Shri Ram Temple and Pran Pratishtha of Shri Ramlala" by stating that Lord Ram belongs to everyone, not only Hindus. Additionally, he charged that the Congress was doubting Ram's existence, which incited a stern response from the opposition benches. Singh claimed that the building of the Ram temple in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya was historic. The former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer emphasised that, contrary to popular belief, there is nothing "communal" about the shrine. Protest for regularization, wages continues outside Chief Engineer’s office

JAMMU: The 596th day of the PHE/Jal Shakti Department workers' and daily wagerers' dharna was observed outside the Chief Engineer's office at B C Road in Jammu. These unfortunate workers are demonstrating in favour of their demand to have their services treated regularly and to have their unpaid salaries released. The Department has not released their about seventy-five-month-old arrears. Their regularisation is still pending, despite the administration of the LG providing promises. For the past 596 days, they have been on strike and holding a protest dharna in front of the Chief Engineer's office at PHE/Jal Shakti Department Jammu. Since June 22, 2022, Jal Shakti labourers have been on strike, calling for the payment of their outstanding payments and the regularisation of their employment.Even with the guarantee of the Lieutenant Governor, their problems could not be resolved after multiple rounds of discussions with senior authorities in the department. Under the banner of PHE United Front, a sizable contingent of PHE employees from several Divisions and Sub-Divisions in the Jammu district gathered outside the Chief Engineer PHE Jammu's office on BC Road and staged a forceful protest demonstration today. They were yelling chants against the BJP, the LG's Administration, and other higher officials in the J&K UT as well as in favour of their demands. Until they receive justice, the employees' representatives—Ravi Hans, Rajinder Singh Taj, Hoshiar Singh, Navdeep Singh, Mohan Lal, and others—said they would not stop their struggle. These defenceless labourers are requesting regularisation, raising the minimum wage in J&K, UT, in accordance with Central Government guidelines, and releasing more than 75 months' worth of wages. They said that the government was not paying them for their hard-earned money and that they were being exploited to the worst extent possible by personnel in charge of affairs. Parliament passes bills for OBC quota in local bodies in J&K, expand list of Scheduled Tribes

NEW DELHI: On Friday, the Rajya Sabha approved three bills concerning Jammu and Kashmir. One of the bills, which aims to align local body regulations in the Union territory with the Constitution, grants reservation to other backward classes. The Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Castes Order (Amendment) Bill, 2024, the Jammu and Kashmir Local Bodies Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024, and the Scheduled Tribes Order (Amendment) Bill, 2024 were approved by the Rajya Sabha. The Lok Sabha has approved the three legislation. Nityanand Rai, the minister of state for home, responded to the discussion surrounding the Jammu and Kashmir Local Bodies Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024.Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda responded to the bill pertaining to the Scheduled Tribes Order, and Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Virendra Kumar addressed the debate on the Scheduled Castes Order bill. According to Munda, the three legislation introduced following the repeal of Article 370 were intended to provide the people of Jammu and Kashmir with justice. He said that "political reservation for the first time" would be granted to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The goal of the Jammu and Kashmir Local Bodies rules (Amendment) Bill, 2024 is to align the Union territory's local body rules with the requirements of the Constitution and grant reservation to Other Backward Classes in panchayats and municipalities within the state.The Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Act of 2000, the Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Corporation Act of 2000, and the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act of 1989 are all intended to be amended. According to officials, the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act's provisions regarding the state election commissioner "are at variance" with the Constitution. As a synonym for Chura, Bhangi, Balmiki, and Mehtar, they asserted that the Jammu and Kashmir administration has suggested adding the Valmiki community to the list of Scheduled Castes of Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir at serial number 5. The "Valmiki" addition to the Schedule of the Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Castes Order, 1956 is proposed by the Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Castes Order (Amendment) Bill, 2023. The officials stated that the "Pahari Ethnic Group," "Koli," "Paddari Tribe," and "Gadda Brahmin" populations have all petitioned to be added to the list of Scheduled Tribes by the Jammu and Kashmir administration. The Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Tribes Order (Amendment) Bill, 2023 suggests making changes to the 1989 Scheduled Tribes Order in the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir.
