Srinagar-Leh Highway Closed Due To Heavy Snowfall

Srinagar, Feb 19: With the exception of the Srinagar-Jammu route, where traffic was moving smoothly, most of the J&K roadways that led out of Kashmir were closed on Monday due to heavy snowfall during the previous 24 hours. According to officials from the traffic department, travel is only allowed on the national highway that runs between Srinagar and Jammu. However, routes to the border towns of Keran and Karnah, Mughal Road, Bandipora-Gurez Road, Sinthan-Kishtwar, and Srinagar-Leh are all closed. Although there was rain in the Valley, over the past 24 hours, there has been a lot of snowfall in higher areas such as Zojila Pass, Baltal, Sonamarg, Pahalgam, Doodhpathri, Gurez, etc.According to reports from the Gulmarg ski resort, there was still a lot of snow falling there this morning. The MeT department predicted rain and snow through February 21. After that, things should get better. JAMMU, Feb 19: There were mudslides in Ramban district on Monday that resulted from heavy rains, according to officials here, closing the Jammu-Srinagar national route to traffic. It has been requested that people stay off the highway until the weather becomes better. According to a traffic department official,"mudslides at Mehad-Cafteria in Ramban and at Tabela Chamalwass in Banihal area have closed the Srinagar-Jammu highway for traffic." JAMMU: After more than 70 years of Indian independence, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha claimed on Saturday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had brought social justice to the Union Territory. According to him, the goal of his administration is to guarantee that progress extends to all aspect of society and that policies promoting fair access to opportunities are reinforced. Speaking at his monthly radio show "Awaam Ki Awaaz," the Lieutenant Governor emphasised the government's initiatives to promote social justice in order to create a "Atmanirbhar" in Jammu and Kashmir. Additionally, he told the tales of the beneficiaries and the heroic unsung figures who have come to represent change in "Naya Jammu Kashmir.""After more than seven decades of India's independence, the prime minister established social justice in J&K, which ensured everyone has access to equal opportunities and resources and well-being and prosperity of marginalised sections of society," stated the Lieutenant Governor. The Lieutenant Governor also honoured nationalist writer and thinker Thakur Raghunath Singh, recalling his important role in advancing Dogri language and culture, and dedicated the 35th edition of the "Awaam ki Awaaz programme" to the unsung heroes and "Nari Shakti" (wome power) of Jammu Kashmir.
