JAMMU: While listening to the concerns raised by the District Development Council (DDC) Chairpersons of the Jammu division today, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo promised them that the LG Administration would do everything within its power to support this democratic institution in the UT. The commissioner secretary for housing and urban development and the principal secretary for finance from the RDD departments were also present at this meeting. These Chairpersons jointly presented a memo to the Chief Secretary for his consideration during this meeting. They also brought up with him the matters concerning their individual districts in order to get an early resolution. The demands made by the council chairs regarding the revalidation of their grant savings for the purpose of implementing additional welfare initiatives in their respective constituencies were brought up.Additionally, they each requested additional funding for projects that were being carried out in their districts. With an emphasis on creating job opportunities for young people, these representatives also worked to resolve other developmental requirements in their respective areas. The Chief Secretary urged them to expedite their planning and begin the tendering process well in advance of the April start of the working season during his remarks. He gave them his word that the Finance department would approve the savings from the competitive tendering process, provided they were shared with them beforehand, so that they could use the money for additional development projects in their areas. Dulloo also stated that he would be personally visiting each of their respective regions in the coming weeks to engage with locals and public representatives. Additionally, he mentioned that they ought to be more involved in the vital planning and oversight tasks required for any area's development. JAMMU:A meeting to review the implementation of the Financial Assistance Scheme for Displaced Persons and West Pakistani Refugees was chaired by Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, today. Provincial Rehabilitation Officer Jammu, Samba, Kathua, and Deputy Commissioners from Jammu were present. The District Committee gathered information on beneficiaries by district from the corresponding Deputy Commissioners regarding cases that have been approved and those that are still pending. The Div Com instructed the Deputy Commissioners to oversee the implementation process personally and urged them to saturate the Scheme with all eligible beneficiaries. "Spread mass awareness among the targeted beneficiaries to ensure that the benefits reach to the last person in the queue" he stated.To identify and address any bottlenecks, the Div Com requested that the DCs call a meeting with all relevant parties, including the DPs and West Pakistani Refugees. The DCs were also instructed by the Div Com to conduct camps in the areas where the targeted population resides and to designate senior officers in their office. BARAMULLA: According to an official statement, Jammu and Kashmir police claimed to have busted a narco module in the Baramulla district of the state after apprehending five drug dealers, including a woman. According to the report, the police also found illegal substances in the accused's possession. The accused are Bakir Ahmad Rather, a resident of Chandsooma Kanispora, and Sharik Ahmad Sheikh, Sharif Ahmad Sheikh, Irfan Ahmad Sheikh, and Muskaan Bano, all of whom reside in DewanBagh Baramulla. NEW DELHI, Jan 5: A local court on Friday detained a suspected terrorist from Hizbul Mujahideen for seven days, accusing him of being involved in eleven terror attack cases in Jammu and Kashmir. SHOPIAN: In an anti-terrorist operation in south Kashmir's Shopian district, J&K Police and security forces killed a terrorist belonging to the banned terror group LeT, officials announced today. A police spokesman said that in the early hours of the morning, Police, Army (34RR), and CRPF (178Bn) jointly launched a cordon and search operation in the village Chotigam area of Shopian in response to specific information regarding the presence of terrorists in the area. The terrorist in hiding opened fire on the joint search party indiscriminately as they got closer to the suspected location during the search operation. The joint search party successfully retaliated, resulting in an encounter. "01 terrorist was killed in the ensuing encounter, and his body was found at the scene.He has been identified as Chek Cholan resident Bilal Ahmed Bhat, son of Ghulam Rasool Bhat, who is associated with the banned terrorist organisation LeT," he said. He also participated in the attack on Chotigam resident Bal Krishan @Sonu. Additionally, he played a role in encouraging twelve young people from the area to enlist in the terrorist organisation. He was implicated in the murder of an arrested terrorist who was in charge of the search party during a CASO at Nowgam in 2022, in addition to other acts of terrorism."From the scene of the encounter, incriminating materials, weapons, and ammunition, including an AK series rifle and three magazines, were found. To further investigate and look into their possible involvement in other terror crimes, all of the recovered materials have been added to case files. In this regard, an investigation has been started and a case has been filed with the police under the applicable legal provisions. The spokesman asked people to cooperate with the police until the area was thoroughly cleaned and cleared of any explosive materials.
