India-Canada relations going through difficult phase: EAM S Jaishankar

NEW DELHI: Concerns about Canadian officials meddling in New Delhi's affairs prompted India to activate the parity clause in Canada's diplomatic mission there, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Sunday. The minister of external affairs added that if there is improvement in the safety of Indian diplomats in Canada, India is probably going to start issuing visas to citizens of that country again. Following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's accusations last month of a "potential" Indian operative role in the June execution of Khalistani rebel Hardeep Singh Nijjar, the relationship between India and Canada became severely strained.A few days following Trudeau's accusations, India requested that Ottawa reduce its diplomatic presence in the nation and said that it would be temporarily halting the issuing of visas to Canadian citizens. "We would like to resume issuing visas there if we see progress in the safety of our diplomats in Canada," Jaishankar stated at an event in response to a query about relations between India and Canada.Regarding the reduction of Canada's diplomatic representation in India, he stated that the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations clearly guarantees diplomatic parity. The Vienna Convention, the pertinent international law on issue, clearly provides for parity. In our situation, Jaishankar stated, "we invoked parity because we were concerned about ongoing interference in our affairs by Canadian personnel." Forty-one Canadian ambassadors have already left India.In announcing the ambassadors' return from India on Thursday, Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly said that New Delhi's actions were "contrary to international law" and in breach of the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations. India has already denied the accusation. According to Jaishankar, the current state of relations between Canada and India is challenging. He also mentioned that certain aspects of Canadian politics are problematic for India. Former Pak PM Nawaz Sharif Returns Home After 4 Yrs In Self-Imposed Exile In UK

Islamabad, Oct 21: After a four-year self-imposed exile in the UK, Nawaz Sharif, the former prime minister of Pakistan, returned home on a special flight on Saturday to lead his party and attempt to win a record-breaking fourth term in the general elections that are anticipated to take place in January.The 73-year-old leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) took a chartered aircraft, "Umeed-e-Pakistan," to Islamabad from Dubai. As part of the bail procedure that the court granted on October 19, Sharif's legal team will meet with him to collect his biometrics and submit them to the Islamabad High Court. As part of the bail procedure that the court granted on October 19, Sharif's legal team will meet with him to collect his biometrics and submit them to the Islamabad High Court.He will arrive in Islamabad for around an hour, after which he will depart for Lahore to speak at a gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan. His return has been portrayed by his party as a sign of optimism for Pakistan. Dozens of fans have arrived at the Islamabad airport, but no call was made for party employees to meet him there. The special aeroplane carried about 150 PML-N supporters, who continuously chanted slogans during the journey.Sharif appeared to be perusing the notes for his evening speech in Lahore while remaining composed throughout the flight. Sharif appeared to be perusing the notes for his evening speech in Lahore while remaining composed throughout the flight. The three-time former prime minister lamented Pakistan's "extremely chaotic" state and gave reporters hope that his party was "competent" to get the financially strapped nation out of its current predicament while speaking to media at the airport in Dubai.After four years, I'm returning to Pakistan today, Sharif declared. I didn't feel joyful when I was leaving Pakistan and travelling overseas, but I do now. After four years, I'm returning to Pakistan today, Sharif declared.The former prime minister went on to say that it would have been ideal if the nation's circumstances had improved from 2017 to the present. Seeing the state of the nation makes me feel incredibly anxious and disappointed. The nation that had to advance is currently regressing both economically and politically. Sharif described the state of affairs as concerning but said that there was still hope and that we shouldn't let it escape our control since we are capable of repairing the damage we caused. He said that since no one was willing to help us, the nation needed to get back on its feet.When I go back to Pakistan in those days, it hurts. We had said goodbye to the IMF, energy was inexpensive, the rupee was steady, jobs were available, roti cost Rs 4, a child from a low-income household could attend school, and medications were reasonably priced. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), according to Sharif, is the only legitimate electoral body with the right to determine when polls would take place.Any date announced by the ECP will be adhered to by all. Whatever the ECP says, that's my top priority. Pakistan now has a fair ECP, and I think it will choose the best course of action for the election. Bemoaning the treatment he had received in the past, he claimed to be the one who had attended 150 court appearances. Bemoaning the treatment he had received in the past, he claimed to be the one who had attended 150 court appearances. Not just me, but my kid as well. She even received a spotless check.It had to come to her. During my administration, she didn't even hold an office. He claimed that in addition to his brother Shehbaz Sharif and the former prime minister, bogus cases were also brought against former interior minister Rana Sanaullah Khan and PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi. I even mentioned before I left that I trust Allah (God) with everything, and I still do. When asked about the violence that took place on May 9 that was purportedly carried out by Imran Khan's party, he grinned and stated, "We are the May 28 ones." On May 28, 1998, Pakistan carried out nuclear tests under the direction of Prime Minister Sharif at the time. In November 2019, after being granted four weeks of bail by a higher court, Sharif departed for London due to medical reasons. He had already completed half of his seven-year prison sentence for the Al-Azizia corruption case by that point.Due to his persistent absence from the procedures regarding appeals against the penalties, Sharif has been labelled a proclaimed criminal in the four years that have passed in the Al-Azizia and Avenfield corruption trials. His motions were not opposed by Pakistan's anti-corruption agency, the National Accountability Bureau, and on Thursday the Islamabad High Court granted him protective bail until October 24 in both instances. In 2017, he resigned as prime minister of Pakistan after the Supreme Court permanently barred him from public office as a result of an investigation into his family's riches following the 2016 Panama Papers leak.Sharif has continuously denied any misconduct and described the case as being driven by politics.
