AC approves creation of separate ‘Jammu and Kashmir Sports Cadre’

SRINAGAR: The creation of the "Jammu and Kashmir Sports cadre" and the creation of 235 positions to be used for the appointment of outstanding athletes, including 10 Gazetted Posts, were approved by the Administrative Council (AC), which convened here under the chairmanship of the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha. The conference was attended by Dr. Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor, Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary, J&K.With this choice, the selection procedure for excellent athletes will get under way. For the previous few years, this process has been complicated by different legal and procedural concerns. The new regulations were developed with the intention of inspiring young people to participate in sports and supporting athletes who excel. The government's efforts to revive sports in the Union Territory are demonstrated by the sportspeople from J&K who are recognised at the national and international level in a variety of sports categories. In order to create an environment that is supportive to the growth of sports in J&K, the government works to make these appointments an annual event. Additionally, the selection of renowned athletes as mentors would greatly aid in the training and development of young people and promote their involvement in regional, national, and international tournaments. Chandigarh, Sep 15 : "Jai Hind Papa." As Colonel Manpreet Singh was being cremated in his hometown in the Punjab Mohali district on Friday, a sombre 6-year-old Kabir saluted his father one final time while wearing Army fatigues. Singh was killed in the shootout with terrorists in the Kashmir valley. Since early in the morning, a constant stream of mourners had been accompanying Colonel Singh's distraught wife, mother, and other family members on their final journey. While the family and others paid their respects, an Army officer was seen cradling Kabir. A relative was spotted holding his two-year-old daughter Banni. Later, Kabir and other family members were spotted clutching to the tricolor-draped coffin of Kabir's father.Before his father's body was cremated, he kneeled before it as the cries of "Bharat Mata ke Sapoot Ki Jai" and "Bharat Mata ki Jai" filled the air. Full military honours were accorded to the cremation, which included a wreath-laying ceremony and a gun salute. Senior Army and police officers, as well as Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit, former Army Chief V P Malik, Ministers Chetan Singh Jouramajra and Anmol Gagan Maan, were also present at Bharaunjian and laid wreaths. Also present was BJP leader Lt Gen D P Vats (retd).The family of Colonel Singh was seen receiving comfort from Purohit and Anmol Maan. Colonel Singh's mother was observed crying early in the morning as she waited at the door for her son's lifeless body. Terror module unearthed in Baramulla; 2 LeT terrorist associates arrested

BARAMULLA: The arrest of two terrorist associates and the recovery of weapons and ammunition from them led to the discovery of a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror module in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla region, according to police reports released on Friday. According to a police officer, the two LeT outfit terrorist members were detained in the north Kashmiri village of Uri. Two firearms and five hand grenades, among other incriminating items, were reportedly found in their possession. The police official stated that a case has been filed under the UA (P) & Arms Act and that additional investigation is ongoing. SRINAGAR, Sept 15: As the operation to drive out the ultras began its third day on Friday, officials said drones were being used to determine the location of the terrorists who had set up camp in a wooded region on a high terrain in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district. On Wednesday, the terrorists murdered four members of the security force. Based on drone monitoring, the military "fired mortar shells on the terrain where they believe the terrorists are hiding," according to the officials. BENGALURU: Early on Friday morning, the Aditya L1 spacecraft, India's first space-based mission to study the Sun, successfully completed its fourth earth-bound manoeuvre, according to ISRO. Gadkari : Govt not planning to levy any tax on diesel vehicles

NEW DELHI:Union minister Nitin Gadkari sought to explain his comments regarding the taxation of diesel vehicles on Thursday, adding that there is no proposal to do so. Instead, he intended to urge automakers to take action to reduce pollution. The road, transport, and highway minister's comments earlier this week about the need to impose a 10% tax on diesel-powered vehicles in order to assist reduce emissions had caused a lot of controversy. Gadkari said to news channel, "I am not against diesel fuel, and we are not going to collect any tax on diesel automobiles. According to the minister of highways and road transport, diesel is extremely dangerous for the environment and is seriously harming the nation's health.Gadkari emphasised that he is not against any one business and added that the government currently offers incentives for electric automobiles. "My advice to the industry is to focus on alternative fuel as the best method to (reduce pollution)," he stated. Speaking on September 12 at the SIAM annual conference, Gadkari cautioned that rising pollution levels pose a serious threat to public health and that increased taxes may be required to deter the sale of diesel cars. DIG holds a meeting to review enforcement of traffic rules

JAMMU: DIG Traffic Shridhar Patil convened a gathering of Range Traffic police officers to assess the traffic situation in Jammu. The DIG began the conference by congratulating the officers for their exceptional performance in completing the Shri Amarnath Ji, Shri Budda Amarnath Ji, and Machail Mata yatras successfully under difficult circumstances. The senior officer conducted a thorough examination of how police personnel enforced traffic laws and gave rewards to those who continued to do so admirably throughout the month of August. Patil emphasised the need to pay special attention to the 13 main traffic infractions listed below since they were serious problems that endangered public safety and inconvenienced people.Overspeeding/dangerous driving, without wearing a crash helmet, using a mobile while driving, driving while intoxicated, driving when underage, incorrect parking, running red lights, overloading a goods carrier or a passenger, riding triple, HSRP, etc. For each black spot that is prone to accidents, he asked the SSP of the traffic police range in Jammu to form Accident Response Teams (ARTs) in their respective areas. These ARTs should include volunteers, members of local organisations, members of Panchayati Raj Institutions, and other stakeholders. They should also start and follow the process of rectification of black spots to prevent accidents and to provide an immediate response in the event of accidents to save precious lives.
