CBI files 6 charge sheets in Patnitop land grabbing case

JAMMU: According to sources, the CBI has filed six charge sheets in connection with claims that hotels and guesthouses in Jammu and Kashmir colluded with past CEOs of the Patnitop Development Authority (PDA) to seize forest and agricultural land. The agency has listed eight hotel owners in its charge sheets submitted to a special court in Jammu, along with two former PDA CEOs, Rajinder Krishan Verma and Kamal Kishore Gupta, two Khilafwarzi inspectors, Avesh Jasrotia and Zaheer Abbas. On Monday, the agency submitted five charge sheets, and on Saturday, one. The agency has also identified Syed Mushtaq Shah, Nazir Shah, Samina Shah, Zubeida Begum, Shakeel Shah, Koushal Magotra, and Virender Kesar as the alleged owners of the hotels Mount View, Dream Land, Broadway, and Hollywood. "Investigation revealed that accused public servants did not take steps to remove illegal constructions, etc. in conspiracy with other accused," a spokesperson for the CBI stated. According to the Jammu and Kashmir High Court's instructions, the CBI took up the probe in 2020 after the president of the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Patnitop filed a public interest lawsuit citing flagrant violations of the Patnitop area's master plan.He said that 70% of hotels and restaurants had been built without authorization. The construction of numerous hotels and guest houses without authorization and without registration with the PDA was further accused. Additionally, it was claimed that officials knew about these encroachments but did nothing about them. The hotels allegedly failed to submit a compounding charge in some instances, according to the CBI's statement following the filing of the FIR. The CBI said that government employees who had control over property in Patnitop conspired with the owners and operators of hotels, guest homes, resorts, etc. failed to uphold the interests of the state and, in contravention of the PDA master plan, permitted illegal development on the aforementioned land that was intended for agriculture, parking, and residential use. Soldier martyred, 3 missing as avalanche hits army contingent at Mount Kun, Ladakh

LEH: An avalanche near Mount Kun, Ladakh, resulted in the death of one soldier and the disappearance of three others, according to officials on Monday. According to military officials, a group of about 40 soldiers from the High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) and the Army Adventure Wing were engaged in routine training exercises close to Mount Kun (Ladakh). "Such exercises are standard practice during this season, aiming to provide realistic mountaineering training for HAWS participants as part of "Train the Trainer" concept," they stated.The sources did note that the crew encountered an unexpected avalanche on their training ascent on October 8. "Four of our hardworking employees were buried beneath. Rescue efforts were launched right away and are currently going strong, they said. A daring search operation is currently underway and has reportedly turned up the mortal remains of one victim of the avalanche. "Despite inclement weather and heavy snow pile up, search and rescue operations continue to locate and recover others trapped under the massive snow deposit," sources said. Anand Jain takes over as IGP Jammu

JAMMU: Anand Jain, an IPS officer, accepted a new position with the Government of India and took over as Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu Zone, Jammu, replacing IPS Mukesh Singh, who served as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), for the same zone. Anand Jain is an IPS officer from the J&K cadre's 1999 batch, and he previously held the position of Director of the J&K Anti-Corruption Bureau, according to the official announcement. "Prior to that, he had held various important posts in J&K as well as during deputation which includes Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ganderbal SP East Srinagar, SSP Baramulla (twice), Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Provision/Transport PHQ, SSP Reasi, SSP Rajouri, SSP Jammu, Commandant, India Reserve 15th Battalion and multiple other posts," according to the press release. According to the official announcement, IPS Mukesh Singh, the departing ADGP for the Jammu Zone, received a heartfelt send-off from the Zonal Police Headquarters (ZPHQ) staff. JK Govt removes W&W LC for corruption

SRINAGAR : In accordance with its stated policy of having no tolerance for employee misconduct or corruption, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has ordered the dismissal of Ruquiya Akhter, the Watch and Ward Woman of the former J&K Legislative Council, which is now under the supervision of the Department of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs. According to Clause (vii) of Rule-30 of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1956, the employee has been terminated from employment because it was determined that they had engaged in misconduct and flagrant violations of the Jammu and Kashmir Government Employees (Conduct) Rules, 1971.at the course of the investigation, it became clear that while the official was working at the J&K office of the Advocate General, a bogus appointment order had been issued, and she had been receiving large sums of money into her account by luring unwary applicants with the prospect of a government post. The investigation officer came to the conclusion that all of the allegations made against the official were true. She will not be eligible for any pension benefits as a result of her dismissal from duty under the aforementioned provision. The official's termination order is intended to serve as a warning to other employees who are engaging in corrupt behaviour. Omar : Denying democratic rights can push people of J&K to protest

SRINAGAR: Omar Abdullah, vice president of the National Conference, stated on Monday that people may come to the streets to demand their right to an elected government if the Election Commission does not make the polling date for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly public. According to Abdullah, we appear to be being forced into a position where we must demonstrate even for our democratic rights. The former chief minister was responding to a query on whether Jammu and Kashmir politics had deteriorated to the point where protests calling for assembly elections were necessary.In a press conference today, the Chief Election Commissioner stated that they will weigh all factors before making a decision on the polls in Jammu and Kashmir. He had before stated that J-K needed a void to be filled. We are curious about these factors. Are EVMs not being provided by the government? Is security not being provided by the government? If elections cannot be held, is the situation worse than it was in 1996? Is it worse than the fallout from the disaster in 2014?" he questioned. Abdullah claimed that the Solicitor General had stated that the government was prepared for elections at the Supreme Court during the hearing of Article 370 petitions, but that the Election Commission would have to make the final decision. "They are either hiding behind the EC or they lied in the SC,"The only reason (for the delay) that I can think of is BJP fear. Please let us know if there is any more information. The BJP has previously been hiding behind the Raj Bhawan. He continued, "Right now they are hiding behind the Election Commission. Unemployment Rate Dips To 6.6 Pc In Urban Areas In April-June 2023: Govt Survey

New Delhi, Oct 9: According to data from the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), the unemployment rate for people aged 15 and over in urban areas decreased from 7.6% in April to June of last year to 6.6% in April to June of this year. The percentage of unemployed people in the labour force is known as the unemployment rate or unemployment rate. In April to June 2022, unemployment was high primarily as a result of the devastating effects of Covid-related limitations on the nation. According to the 19th Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS), the UR for people aged 15 and over in urban areas was 7.6% in April–June 2022.The unemployment rate for the three months of January to March 2023 was 6.8%. Both in October-December 2022 and July-September 2022, it was 7.2%. It also demonstrated that the unemployment rate for women (aged 15 and older) in metropolitan areas decreased from 9.5% in the same quarter last year to 9.1% in April–June 2023. It was 9.2% from January through March 2023, 9.6% from October through December 2022, and 9.4% from July through September 2022. In metropolitan regions, the unemployment rate for men fell to 5.9% in April–June 2023 from 7.1% in the same quarter a year earlier.It was 6% from January through March 2023, 6.5 % from October through December 2022, and 6.6 % from July through September 2022. People aged 15 and over who live in urban areas' CWS (Current Weekly Status) labour force participation rate climbed from 47.5 percent to 48.8 percent in April to June 2023. It was 48.5% from January to March 2023, 48.2% from October to December 2022, and 47.9% from July to September 2022. The term "labour force" refers to the segment of the population that provides or proposes to provide labour for engaging in economic activities for the production of goods and services, and as a result, both employed and unemployed people are included.PLFS was introduced by the NSSO in April 2017. The Worker Population Ratio (WPR), the Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR), the distribution of employees by broad status in employment, and the industry of work in CWS are all labour force indicators that are estimated based on the PLFS. The CWS unemployment estimates provide an average view of unemployment during a brief period of seven days during the survey period.
