India asks Canada to withdraw over 40 diplomatic staff: Report

NEW DELHI: Approximately 40 Canadian diplomats have been requested to be recalled by India, according to a Financial Times story. According to individuals with direct knowledge of the situation, New Delhi has set a deadline of October 10 for the return. India had previously requested that Canada's 62 ambassadors there be cut by 41, according to the publication. When ties between the two nations reached an all-time low as a result of Ottawa's accusations against New Delhi over the execution of a Khalistani separatist on Canadian soil, India had earlier requested that Canada reduce its diplomatic representation there. Arindam Bagchi, a spokesman for the ministry of external affairs, claimed that the size of Canada's diplomatic staff in India was more than that of New Delhi's staff in Canada and that there should be parity in both strength and rank in the two countries' presences. Relationships between India and Canada have reached an all-time low as a result of Canadian suspicions that operatives of the Indian government were involved in the killing of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada in June. India had previously designated Nijjar as a "terrorist" and Canada. The accusation has been rejected by India as ludicrous. An "atmosphere of intimidation" and a "climate of violence" against Indian diplomats in Canada, according to earlier comments by Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar. 3 soldiers injured, 2-3 militants trapped in Kalakote forests

RAJOURI, Oct 2: In a clash with two to three militants tonight at the Broh forests in the Kalakote tehsil of this border district, three Army soldiers were hurt. While search operations were being conducted in Broh by the Army, police, and paramilitary forces this afternoon, a contact with the militants was made tonight, resulting in a significant exchange of gunfire. In the firing, three Army men were hurt and were taken to the hospital.Tonight, extra troops were dispatched to the area to make sure the extremists don't manage to flee. The militants looked to be a part of two to three distinct organisations that operate in Rajouri and Poonch, the two bordering districts. The government declared that the Broh woodland region had been roped off and well guarded.According to the information, the militants are foreigners who are armed with high-tech weapons and explosive devices. An inquiry into how the militants got to the Broh woodlands in the Kalakote tehsil will take place after the incident. Prior to this, security authorities killed two foreign jihadists in Narla in Rajouri's rural Taryath neighbourhood. There is no LoC nearby Kalakote or Taryath.The number of confrontations in the Rajouri, Poonch, and Reasi districts has increased this year, both along the Line of Control and in the hinterland. In the three areas, more than 30 insurgents have been slain. The forces in Rajouri and Poonch districts have also prevented a number of infiltration attempts on the LoC. Seven members of minorities were murdered by two foreign extremists at the start of the year in the Rajouri district's Dhangri area. On April 20, five troops were killed in an attack on an Army vehicle in Bhatta Durrian in the Mendhar neighbourhood of Poonch district. On May 5, a few days later, five more jawans gave their lives in a shootout with terrorists in the Kandi woods of Rajouri. However, a number of foreign terrorists were killed in a series of encounters that occurred at Surankote, Darhal, Narla, Dhakikote, etc. in Rajouri, Poonch, and Reasi districts after these killings. Additionally, the Rajouri and Poonch districts on the Line of Control saw the Army kill several militants who were attempting to cross from Pakistan into Indian territory. In order to flush out the evading militants, more troops have already been deployed along the LoC in the two districts in addition to sensitive areas in the hinterland. All parties will be consulted on 1 Nation, 1 Election: Azad

SRINAGAR: 'One nation, one election' would be decided upon after consultation with all political parties, according to former Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, a member of the high-level committee established to examine the viability of simultaneous elections. "Only an initial meeting was held. It was a welcome meeting. I disagree that it needs to be implemented right away, as some have suggested, because national, regional, and recognised parties will need to be consulted first. It is necessary to consult with many individuals, Azad told the reporters gathered here.It's also incorrect to believe that the committee will decide on its own, according to the seasoned politician who was appointed to the Ram Nath Kovind-led group. We'll look for opinions from everyone. The Women's Reservation Bill was passed in both houses of parliament despite being 30 years late, according to the former president of J&K and chairman of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), who also praised political parties for letting go of their inflexible positions. It arrived too late. It ought to have arrived 15–20 years earlier... Even 30 years earlier would have been preferable. Earlier attempts, such as those made during the UPA, encountered opposition from several constituent parties.There was no consensus.Now, at least, there is consensus, and both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha approved it. The government and all the parties who this time around did not adhere to their rigidity and backed the law deserve praise for it, he continued. The previous chief minister commented on the "delay" in holding assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir by stating that elections are essential to democracy and must be held, notwithstanding the delay. "The idea that there won't be any elections is absurd. Democracy won't exist if there are no elections.And the elections, particularly the assembly elections, are not only late but also past due. Assembly elections haven't been held in a while, but parliamentary elections are always held on schedule and without incident. It’s Unfortunate We Go Opposite To The Path Shown By Mahatma Gandhi : Omar

SRINAGAR, Oct 2: Omar Abdullah, the vice president of the National Conference and a former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, remarked on Monday, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, "It is unfortunate that we go opposite to the path shown by Mahatma Gandhi." "If we uphold the teachings of Gandhiji, this nation will only get better. At times, it seems as though we only think of Gandhiji when we travel overseas or when world leaders come to visit Rajghat. However, on the other days, we both forget and deviate from Gandhi's way of life, Abdullah told reporters in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.
