‘1 Nation, 1 Election’ In National Interest, Nothing To Do With Any Party: Kovind

Rae Bareli, Nov 21: Holding simultaneous polls is in the best interests of the country and has nothing to do with any one political party, according to former president Ram Nath Kovind, who also serves as the head of the committee investigating the possibility of "one nation, one election." "The public will benefit from simultaneous elections because the money saved will be used for development projects," the former president told reporters on a private visit to this area on Monday night. It is in the best interests of the country, so I am asking all political parties to work together. He emphasised that it has nothing to do with any political party.The eight-member high-level committee, led by Kovind, was established by the government earlier this year. The parliamentary committee, Niti Aayog, the Election Commission of India, and other committees have all stated that the nation needs to revive the tradition of "one nation, one election." The former president made this statement. "A committee has been established by the government with me serving as its chairman for this purpose. He stated, "We are collaborating with the populace and will make recommendations to the authorities regarding the revival of this custom. "I have also gotten in touch with every national party that has registered to ask for their advice. They were all in favour of it at one point. As this is in the best interests of the country, we kindly ask all political parties to collaborate," he said. Declaring that "one nation, one election" would not benefit any one political party, Kovind stated, "If implemented, the party which is in power at the Centre, be it the BJP or the Congress or any other party, will benefit." There isn't any prejudice. The general public will gain the most since Kovind stated that the money saved will be used for development projects.The committee decided to invite recognised national parties, state-level political parties, parties with representatives in parliament, and other recognised state parties to discuss the idea of holding simultaneous elections nationwide during its first meeting in September. The panel also discussed the committee's procedures. Furthermore, it stated that the Law Commission of India will be invited by the Committee to share their ideas and opinions on the matter. The decision to assign Kovind the task of investigating concurrent Lok Sabha and state assembly polls is a testament to the government's seriousness as elections draw near. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has long championed the idea of holding these polls simultaneously. Caste census is ‘X-ray’ of country, Congress will conduct it: Rahul at Rajasthan poll rally

RAJASTHAN: Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader, promoted the caste census on Tuesday, calling it a national "X-ray." "How will we talk about participation if it is unknown whose population is how much?" he asked at an election rally in Vallabhnagar, Udaipur. Gandhi stated that if the Congress wins power, it will carry out a caste census in Rajasthan and nationwide if it forms the federal government. On the matter, he attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming that while in the past the PM had claimed to be an OBC, on the day Gandhi brought up the demand for a caste census, Modi began asserting that there is only one caste in India: the poor. "Modi claimed that there was only one caste in the nation—the poor—but he made no mention of the existence of a second caste, which consists of billionaires. That's the caste of Adani, Ambani. They belong to a unique caste," he remarked. The former head of the Congress accused Modi of using his position to distract the public while Adani commits pickpocketing, saying that "they are a team".
