Acting tough against defaulters, JPDCL disconnects power of more than 1700 consumers, realizes 9 Cr in 2 days

JAMMU: The Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) has disconnected 1702 defaulters in a campaign against "illegal" power connections and past-due payments, earning an astounding Rs 9 crore in revenue in just two days, according to officials today. "In the first place, connections of 1702 consumers including influential consumers (Industries, Hotels and Influential persons) were disconnected to sensitise the masses to clear their liabilities on account of electricity bills and develop habits of paying electricity bills in time," it stated. The JPDCL spokesperson went on to say that between March 2023 and October 2023, 49,028 inspections were carried out, resulting in the disconnections of 23131 customers' power and the realisation of Rs. 68.19 crore.All customers have been advised by JPDCL to pay their outstanding balances right now in order to prevent being disconnected. During the crackdown, which was a component of JPDCL's continuous efforts to stop energy theft and deal with financial irregularities, the inspection procedure was strengthened and included both day and night patrols to look for power theft. Spokesman for the JPDCL emphasised that the initiative's goal was to tighten the noose around customers who frequently connect up, violate agreed-upon loads, and bypass metres. The JPDCL underlined in an official statement that it is dedicated to helping legitimate customers and making sure they are not burdened by the misdeeds of bad people.The electricity distribution company emphasised even further how actions like energy theft must be taken seriously. These actions not only cause blackouts but also damage to transformers, which inconveniences law-abiding customers. JPDCL's two-day operation yielded significant revenue, with a total of Rs 9.03 crore collected on Tuesday alone in arrear dues. This indicates the gravity of the problem and the organization's resolve to immediately settle outstanding payments. With 1411 inspections conducted throughout the Jammu Division, the inspection covered a number of circles. In the course of these initiatives, 432 KW of load was added in each of Jammu Province's 10 districts.In the meantime, JPDCL claimed in an official statement that several Sub Divisions of JPDCL initiated a new, enormous disconnection drive against powerful and persistent defaulters with significant arrears after realising that the defaulters were not receiving a consistent supply of power over the winter. Targeted during the drive were domestic, commercial, and industrial customers with large arrears. In order to prevent power disconnections, the JPDCL asked customers to pay their outstanding bills as soon as possible. It emphasised that it is still dedicated to delivering dependable and continuous power supply to those who meet their financial commitments. Govt To Make Unique Identifier Mandatory For Construction Workers: Labour Secy

New Delhi, Nov 29: In order to safeguard the rights of migrant workers, the government said on Wednesday that it will require all building and construction workers nationwide to have a unique identity. Benefits portability will be facilitated by this identity, which will be connected to Aadhaar and incorporated into the e-Shram database. Labour Secretary Arti Ahuja stated that the family's entitlements should be available regardless of whether someone is in Delhi today or Mumbai tomorrow. The senior official said this while speaking at "The Migration Conclave," which was held in the nation's capital and was sponsored by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the All India Organisation of Employers (AIOE and FICCI). These revisions will be fully explained in the future addendum, which is anticipated to be presented within the next week.Ahuja talked about the difficulties brought about by the growing usage of contractors to seek unregistered labour abroad. According to the Interstate Migrant Workmen Act, contractors will have to offer these workers full benefits under the four labour codes. These include access to basic amenities like restrooms and worksite childcare, minimum salaries, and occupational safety. According to Ahuja, the ministry also intends to put policies in place that guarantee proper housing, hygienic conditions, and knowledge of one's rights in these areas.In order to address the unique issues of migrant workers inside industries, she also stressed the significance of a tripartite process involving workers' organisations. The International worker Organization's (ILO) Deputy Director, Satoshi Sasaki, emphasised the importance of worker migration in the present and future labour markets. He emphasised the chances and difficulties faced by migratory workers, which are made worse by the Covid-19 pandemic's effects on access to respectable employment.
