3,422 active COVID-19 cases recorded in India

NEW DELHI: The health ministry announced on Thursday that while there are still 3,422 active cases of COVID-19 in India, there have been 514 new cases of the virus. The ministry's data, updated at 8 am, shows that three deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours—two in Maharashtra and one in Karnataka. Up until December 5, 2023, the number of daily cases had decreased to double digits; however, cases started to rise as a result of the cold weather and the appearance of a new sub-variant JN.1. According to government sources, after December 5, there was a maximum one-day increase of 841 new cases recorded on December 31, 2023, or 0.2% of the peak instances recorded in May 2021. Approximately 92% of all active cases are being treated at home in isolation. "The currently available data suggests that the JN.1 sub-variant is neither leading to an exponential rise in the new cases nor a surge in the hospitalisation and mortality," said an official source. India has previously experienced three waves of COVID-19, with the delta wave, which is expected to occur in April–June 2021, reporting the highest daily incidence of new cases and deaths. On May 7, 2021, the number of new cases and deaths reported reached 414,188, the peak. According to the ministry's website, nearly 4.4 crore individuals have recovered from the illness, meaning that the country's recovery rate is 98.81 percent. As per the website, the nation has administered 220.67 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines thus far. Terrorist activity has escalated in the Rajouri Poonch area. "Across the border, support infrastructure for proxy tandems in the Rajouri Poonch sector continues," said General Manoj Pande. We have electronic warfare devices tailored to the terrain," said General Manoj Pande. "We have reorganised the artillery division. Additionally, our electronic warfare and electronic intelligence units have been reorganised. Drones are starting to replace the animals in our animal transport units as we begin the process of lowering their number.We have formulated a strategy to maximise our capabilities by substantial figures, and by 2027, we hope to attain a 1 lakh figure optimisation.The government has received the proposal from us," he continued. When asked about the recruitment of Agniveers, General Manoj "The first two batches of Agniveers are now fully deployed in field units and the feedback is very exciting and positive... 120 women officers who have been given permanent commission and are in command roles are deployed in field areas, and they are doing a good job there." "...We also have moved from the current conduct of our competitive and promotion exams to fully online mode and by the end of this year, all our promotion exams will be held entirely online..." concluded CoAS General Manoj Pande. ED summons NC president Farooq Abdullah for questioning in money laundering case

JAMMU: According to official sources on Wednesday, the president of the National Conference (NC), Farooq Abdullah, has been asked by the Enforcement Directorate to appear for questioning in a money laundering case on Thursday. It is believed that the 86-year-old lawmaker was summoned in relation to the federal agency's inquiry into purported anomalies inside the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA). The Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed charges against the MP representing Srinagar in the Lok Sabha in 2022. The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association's money were embezzled, according to the ED, by the transfer of funds to a number of unconnected parties' personal bank accounts, including those of JKCA office bearers, and through mysterious cash withdrawals from JKCA bank accounts. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) charge sheet against the same accused, submitted in 2018, serves as the foundation for the agency's case. Abdullah, a former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister, has been summoned to appear in person at the ED office in Srinagar. Private schools protest against BOSE move of tagging students

JAMMU: An intense protest demonstration was staged in front of the BOSE office in Jammu, protesting the J&K Board of School Education's (JKBOSE) decision to tag pupils attending private schools. It appears that this was the first time that private school administrators, instructors, drivers, and other stakeholders came together to jointly denounce the challenges they confront. The J&K Private Schools Association served as the umbrella organisation for the protest demonstration. Members of the protestors were observed holding flags and carrying placards. They were pleading with the JKBOSE to permit all regular class 10th, 11th, and 12th pupils to show up from the same school where they had registered for the previous session. Ajay Gupta, the president of the JKPSA Central Body, expressed regret over the J&K Board of School Education's recent establishment of a new practice tagging board students—those in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades—with those attending neighbouring government schools. He continued, explaining that JKBOSE's action at the close of the academic year has not only paralysed board classes but also rendered the entire system inoperable, even for students in grades 1 through 8. He further stated that JKBOSE failed to account for the effects of tagging on the salaries of teachers, ministerial staff, drivers, cleaners, peons, bank EMI, EPFO, ESIC, rent (in the case of rented buildings), electricity bills, and other expenses. Members called for an urgent reversal of JKBOSE's order pertaining to student tagging. In addition, they vowed to stage similar demonstrations throughout Jammu and Kashmir if the government did not revoke its divisive ban on private education. Speakers at the demonstration included Kamal Gupta (JKPSA Chairperson), Deepak Handa (Senior Vice President), Sat Paul Mansotra (General Secretary), Sanjeev Luthra, Ajay Singh, R P Sharma, Lal Chand Gandotra, Vineet Gupta, Siddheshwar Sadotra, Laddi Kumar, Tariq, Shafiq Ul Rehman, Gurbax Singh, Vishal Magotra, Naresh Kumar, Amajed, Anil Choudhary, Rashpal Singh, Dr. Madan Mohan, Naresh Kumar, Ankur Arora, Rishab Choudhary, Subash Chib, Vidant, Manish Joshi, Vivek Chouhan, Rishab Mengi, Usha Jamwal, and others [caption id="attachment_8753" align="alignnone" width="300"] Private schools protest against BOSE move of tagging students[/caption]
