Govt hikes wheat MSP by Rs 150 per quintal to Rs 2,275 for 2024-25

NEW DELHI: The government on Wednesday announced a rise in the minimum support price (MSP) of wheat by Rs 150 to Rs 2,275 per quintal for the 2024–25 marketing season, ahead of assembly elections in important wheat-growing regions. Since taking office in 2014, the administration led by Narendra Modi has increased salaries at the greatest rate. Prime Minister Modi presided over the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) meeting when a decision in this regard was made. The marketing-share price (MSP) for wheat for the 2023–24 marketing season (April–March) is currently Rs 2,125 per quintal.Anurag Thakur, the minister of I&B, briefed the media that the CCEA had recommended raising the minimum support price (MSP) for all mandatory rabi crops for the 2024–25 marketing season. "We have raised the MSP of six rabi crops in accordance with the CACP's suggestion. The MSP for wheat has been raised by Rs 150 per quintal, he declared. He also stated that the support price of wheat has been raised from Rs 2,125 per quintal in 2023–24 to Rs 2,275 per quintal for the 2024–25 marketing season. The primary crop grown during the winter months is wheat, which is sown in October and harvested in April. The minimum support price, or MSP, is guaranteed to safeguard farmers' interests. Below this price, government procurement agencies will not buy grain. Cabinet approves Rs 20,773.7 cr for transmission line to evacuate power from Ladakh

NEW DELHI: In order to build a transmission line for the purpose of evacuating power from a 13 GW renewable energy project in Ladakh, the Union Cabinet approved the project on Wednesday for Rs 20,773.7 crore. In his Independence Day speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced plans to establish a 7.5 GW solar park in Ladakh. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) created a plan to install a 12 GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and a 13 GW Renewable Energy (RE) generation capacity in Pang, Ladakh, following a thorough field survey. According to an official announcement, building an interstate transmission system will be required in order to evacuate this enormous amount of power.It further stated that the Green Energy Corridor (GEC) Phase-II - Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) for 13 GW Renewable Energy Project in Ladakh has been approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA). The transmission line that will be used to evacuate this power will travel across Punjab and Himachal Pradesh before arriving at Kaithal, Haryana, and connecting to the national grid there. The project is expected to be operational by the 2029–2030 fiscal year, with a projected cost of Rs 20,773.70 crore, including 40 percent funding from the national government (Rs 8,309.48 crore). Army Jawan Succumbs To Bullet Injury, Last Rites Held In Reasi

JAMMU, Oct 18: In the Poonch area of Jammu and Kashmir, an army jawan deployed near the Line of Control died from bullet wounds under unclear circumstances. His final ceremonies were held in the Reasi district on Wednesday with full military honours. According to officials, 22-year-old Ridham Sharma was discovered injured by a gunshot while performing normal duty in the forward regions of the Balakote belt. On Tuesday, they stated, he passed away at the medical centre from his wounds.The body was examined post-mortem and turned over to the police. Sharma lived in the Reasi district's Serwad hamlet. The police have opened an investigation into the situation and filed a case. When the jawan's body was returned home for the final ceremonies, hundreds of people gathered in the village and chanted slogans honouring him. Over 1.27 Lac Pilgrims Visit Vaishno Devi Shrine In First 3 Days Of Navratra

Katra Oct 18: During the first three days of the Navratra celebration, more than 1.27 lakh people visited the Vaishno Devi cave temple located atop the Trikuta hills in the Reasi region of Jammu and Kashmir, according to officials on Wednesday. The temple has been prepared to welcome pilgrims from all across the country for the nine-day Navratra celebration, which began on October 15 and is set to end on October 23. Jammu, the country's winter capital, is 45 kilometres away from the shrine.An official from the temple board stated that during the first three days of the current Navratra celebration, more than 1.27 lakh visitors visited the shrine to pay their respects. He stated that while almost 45,000 pilgrims attended the shrine on Sunday, the second and third days of Navratra saw 41,164 and 41,523 visitors, respectively. Since January of this year, more than 78 lakh pilgrims have reportedly offered prayers at the temple, according to the administration. The greatest number of pilgrims—more than 11.95 lakh—was noted in June, while the lowest—roughly 4.14 lakh—was noted in February.The official stated that everything was set up for the pilgrimage to proceed smoothly and that the additional amenities, including the much-needed skywalk that is situated 20 feet above the current track, have greatly relieved the pilgrims. According to the officials, the skywalk is equipped with contemporary features including LED screens, rest areas, two emergency exits, oak floors, a waiting hall, and seating for roughly 150 pilgrims. According to the organisers, the skywalk features an attractively constructed entryway with a creatively adorned portrayal of "Nav Durga" to provide devotees with an enhanced experience.According to the administrators, the purpose of the renovated "Parvati Bhawan," which featured 1,500 digital lockers, a waiting space, and restrooms, was to combine several amenities under one roof in order to reduce the erratic movements of devotees in the Bhawan area and direct them towards the skywalk. They said that the renovated Parvati Bhawan serves about 10,000 pilgrims every day and is a free service. For the benefit of the devotees, a "Bhojanalaya" was also established in Bharav Ghati on the first day of Navratra, according to the officials.In addition to twelve refreshment centres or overlooks, the shrine board operates five fully operational Bhojanalyas (three at Bhawan and one each at Adkuwari and Sanjichhat) to offer nutritious meals to pilgrims on a non-profit basis. The pilgrims expressed their delight with the arrangements and commended the shrine board for its ongoing efforts to upgrade and enhance the shrine's infrastructure."I came to seek the blessings of Mata after a nine-year break and was shocked to see massive infrastructure development at the shrine and en route for the benefit of the devotees," Delhi resident Vijay Sharma said. On the third day of Navratra, Sharma went to the shrine with two of his friends and praised the efforts of the shrine board for handling a large influx of pilgrims without any problems.The nine-day event, which is being held in Katra, the base camp for pilgrims visiting the shrine, features a number of highlights, including a wrestling competition called "Hassaya Vyang," an all-India devotional song competition called Ramleela, Bhagwat Katha, Prabhat Pheri, Shobha Yatra, and a laser show that narrates "Mata Ki Kahani." Death toll rises to 40 in Sikkim floods, 76 still missing

NEW DELHI: According to a Tuesday government announcement, the dead toll from the Sikkim flash floods rose to 40, and 76 people are still missing in the disaster-stricken state. The Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority reports that 4418 persons have so far been evacuated from each of the four affected districts. "A total number of people were evacuated in Mangan (2705) Gangtok (1025), Pakyong (58) Namchi (630) however there are 40 casualties, with Pakyong facing the most deaths (15)," according to an official statement. According to SSDMA, 1852 persons are being housed in 19 relief camps spread over four districts in the state. Prior to the Glacial Lake Outburst Flood across the Teesta River Basin in Gangtok, the Sikkim government announced Rs 10,000 each for labourers enrolled under the building and other construction workers (BOCW) welfare board on Sunday. At the awareness and distribution of distress relief aid ceremony held in Chintan Bhawan in Gangtok, Chief Minister Prem Singh Golay presented checks to around 8,733 labourers impacted by the South Lhonak Lake GLOF. The Trishakti Corps of the Indian Army is still providing aid in the region. The Sappers are still rebuilding and re-connecting places that were cut off from the Glacial Lake Outburst Flood, according to the Trishakti Corps. The Sappers built a foot suspension bridge over the Mighty Teesta river in North while working in unfavourable weather. From October 7 to October 13, Trishakti Corps soldiers also carried out a rescue operation in North Sikkim. The army managed to get to the residents of the North Sikkim village of Rabom by navigating dangerous terrain. People who were stranded received food and medical care from the army. The Trishakti Corps personnel managed to construct a rescue route despite the bad weather, rescuing 97 Kundan Hydro Power Project employees as well as a number of residents of Rabom village. The Army also built a helipad in the village to improve access for the troops.On October 3, the Lhonak glacier in the Sikkim Himalayas ruptured, shattering one side of the lake and raising the water levels in Teesta and numerous other areas of the state, leaving thousands of visitors trapped and leaving scores of people dead. The recent flash floods that damaged footbridges, roads, and other infrastructure severely disrupted Sikkim's daily life. IGP directs officers in Samba district to take stringent action against drug smugglers

SAMBA: Anand Jain, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the Jammu Zone, gave officers in the Samba district severe orders to take action against drug providers and traffickers on Tuesday. Jain inspected the district's security measures, crime statistics, and public grievance redressal on his first visit to Samba after taking over as police chief of the Jammu Zone. According to a police spokeswoman, he also presided over a crime review meeting and gave orders to officials to take harsh action against all drug sellers and smugglers in order to eliminate any remaining heroin threats from the district as soon as possible.The spokesperson stated that all divisional police officers (SDPOs), station house officers (SHOs), and police post incharges were instructed to thoroughly investigate drug cases and discover the connections between smugglers in order to ensure that no drug trafficker or conspirator escapes punishment. He gave instructions to police officers and staff to adopt a people-friendly approach and provide the public with sincere and devoted service. 2 BSF personnel receive bullet injuries along IB in Jammu

JAMMU: According to sources, two members of the Border Security Force (BSF) were shot during a fire incident on Tuesday night near the International Border (IB). The injured BSF members were taken to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital where it was reported that they were in a "stable" condition. Despite the BSF's silence over the incident, official sources claimed that a preliminary inquiry revealed the shooting originated from across the boundary. They claimed that when gunfire erupted outside the border guards' position on Tuesday night in the R S Pura sector's Arnia neighbourhood, injuries were sustained. JAMMU:Ramesh Kumar, the Divisional Commissioner for Jammu, presided over a meeting today to discuss the ongoing revision of the Jammu Master Plan 2032. Rahul Yadav, the commissioner of JMC Jammu, Vivekanand Rai, the director of tourism in Jammu, Shiv Kumar Gupta, the vice chairman of the Jammu Development Authority, DFOs of Jammu and Samba, Jal Shakti, the chief engineer of JPDCL, FA & CAO JDA, and other relevant officers were present at the meeting. Deputy Commissioner Jammu and Samba participated via video conference.Naresh Kumar Dhiman, Chief Planner, TCPO New Delhi; Jit Kumar Gupta, Former Advisor Town Planning, (Retired) PUDA; Jacob Manohar, Associate Town & Country Planner, TCPO New Delhi; and other members of the Technical Committee attended via video conference. The Jammu Master Plan (JMP) 2032 was methodically laid out in a thorough PowerPoint presentation by the Town and Country Planning Government of New Delhi to open the conference. Planning area JMP 2032, which includes the Jammu Municipal Corporation and the municipalities of Bari Bharamna, Vijaypur, Bishnah, and Gho Manasa, was disclosed.The total planned area increases from 652.33 sq KM to 778.3 sq KM with the addition of the recognised 93 plus 54 villages that were not notified and the correction of the JMP 2032 boundary by aligning the Revenue Villages' boundaries at the periphery. There are currently 350 communities included within the ratified Master Plan border, including 54 that were previously unnotified and 93 that have already received approval. It was notified that the land usage survey had been conducted satisfactorily.To increase the success of the strategy, AIILSG & Sustainable Alternative Private Ltd. has been contracted to conduct surveys on socioeconomic issues, traffic, and transportation. Divisional Commissioner emphasised the need to prioritise zones based on their specific needs. To maintain parallel success across many sectors, he emphasised the significance of coordinated efforts on zonal development plans and rural development plans. In-depth discussions were held on important issues, and department heads were instructed to provide thorough information about ongoing projects and allot land for new ideas and projects.The details of all the roads were to be shared by NHAI and PWD officials so that they could be included in the JMP 2023 map. Furthermore, he emphasised the need for public input in order to resolve any concerns and recommended the early submission of the draught master plan.
