JAMMU, Oct 25: In the ongoing Project Sampark on National Highway 144A (NH144A) from Akhnoor to Poonch, the Border Road Organisation has accomplished a noteworthy milestone. Eight packages make up this important project, and the BRO is making great strides in improving the road’s horizontal and vertical profiles. The 260-meter Kandi Tunnel, the first of the four tunnels, has made significant technological progress. This amazing achievement is a result of the BRO team’s commitment and diligence.Beginning in March 2023, the tunnel project has advanced remarkably despite challenging circumstances, such as persistent rain and landslides over the entire road segment. The breakthrough occurred ahead of schedule, proving the BRO’s extraordinary skill and perseverance. Chief Engineer of Project Sampark, Brigadier Tejpal Singh, SM, was present to witness this historic event. It is anticipated that Package 1 will be finished by June 2024. When the tunnel is finished, the road between Akhnoor and Poonch will be 2.5 kilometres shorter, increasing connection and enabling more effective travel.Furthermore, this tunnel would be essential in improving the Armed Forces’ strategic linkage, facilitating quicker and more efficient travel from Jammu to Poonch. This accomplishment demonstrates the Border Road Organization’s commitment to timely and successful completion of all projects, which it has undertaken with the goal of enhancing the country’s transportation infrastructure.
