SRINAGAR: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday staged a protest in the Jammu & Kashmir Assembly against remarks made by National Conference (NC) MLA Bashir Ahmad Veeri, who referred to the BJP as a “communal party”.According to sources, the NC MLA, while paying tribute to former BJP MLC Ramesh Arora, praised Arora’s work and contributions. During his speech, he added that Arora, despite being affiliated with a “communal party,” had a “secular mindset.”

The remarks prompted BJP legislators to rise from their benches and protest, demanding action against the NC MLA. BJP legislator Sham Lal Sharma criticized Veeri, saying such derogatory comments were inappropriate during an obituary reference.

Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather intervened, reminding legislators not to make controversial remarks while paying tributes during obituary references.
