Batch of More Than 6,600 Pilgrims Departs From Jammu for Amarnath

JAMMU, Jul 16: An official said that Another batch of over 6,600 Amarnath pilgrims left the Jammu city early Sunday for Kashmir amid rain and tight security to embark on the annual pilgrimage.More than 2.10 lakh pilgrims have already made their way to the revered cave temple of Amarnath, which is situated at a height of 3,880 metres in the south Kashmir Himalayas, since the 62-day yatra’s start on July 1.
The official stated that “between 3.30 am and 3.55 am, a convoy of 241 trucks carrying 6,684 pilgrims left Bhagwati Nagar base camp Jammu for the valley..”In the midst of intermittent rain that continued for hours, soaking numerous areas of Jammu and flooding several roads, the pilgrim convoy set out for the two base camps, Pahalgam in Anantnag and Baltal in the Ganderbal region.
The official reports that 2,998 pilgrims are travelling to Baltal in 109 cars, while 3,686 pilgrims have already left for Pahalgam base camp in 132 vehicles.With the latest dispatch, a total of 86,865 pilgrims have left the Jammu base camp for the valley since June 30 — the day the first batch of pilgrims was flagged off by LG Sinha.
