619 Cases Of Covid Sub-Variant JN.1 Reported From 12 States Till Jan 4

New Delhi, Jan 5: Official sources stated on Friday that the number of COVID-19 sub-variant JN.1 cases reported from 12 states through January 4 had increased to 619. Karnataka has reported 199 cases, Kerala has reported 148, Maharashtra has reported 110, Goa has reported 47, Gujarat has reported 36, Andhra Pradesh has reported 30, Tamil Nadu has reported 26, Delhi has reported 15, Rajasthan has reported 2, Telangana has reported 2, and Odisha and Haryana have reported one each. Despite the fact that the number of cases is increasing and the JN.1 sub-variant has been found nationwide, authorities stated that there is no need for immediate concern because the majority of infected individuals are choosing home-based treatment, which suggests a mild illness.In response to an increase in Covid cases and the discovery of the JN.1 sub-variant in the nation, the Centre has already requested that states and Union territories keep a continuous watch. SHOPIAN: In an anti-terrorist operation in south Kashmir's Shopian district, J&K Police and security forces killed a terrorist belonging to the banned terror group LeT, officials announced today. A police spokesman said that in the early hours of the morning, Police, Army (34RR), and CRPF (178Bn) jointly launched a cordon and search operation in the village Chotigam area of Shopian in response to specific information regarding the presence of terrorists in the area. The terrorist in hiding opened fire on the joint search party indiscriminately as they got closer to the suspected location during the search operation. The joint search party successfully retaliated, resulting in an encounter. "01 terrorist was killed in the ensuing encounter, and his body was found at the scene.He has been identified as Chek Cholan resident Bilal Ahmed Bhat, son of Ghulam Rasool Bhat, who is associated with the banned terrorist organisation LeT," he said. According to police records, the terrorist who was killed was involved in multiple terror crime cases. One of these cases involved the killing of a local army personnel, Umer Fayaz, son of Fayaz Ahmad Parray, who lived in Sudsan Kulgam. Another involved throwing a grenade at non-local labourers in Hermain, which led to the immediate death of two labourers.Additionally, he was responsible for the deaths of two Kashmiri pandits who lived in Chotigam Shopian: Sunil Kumar Bhat, son of Sri G Bhat, and Pretimber Nath, son of Arjun Nath Bhat. He also participated in the attack on Chotigam resident Bal Krishan @Sonu. Additionally, he played a role in encouraging twelve young people from the area to enlist in the terrorist organisation. He was implicated in the murder of an arrested terrorist who was in charge of the search party during a CASO at Nowgam in 2022, in addition to other acts of terrorism."From the scene of the encounter, incriminating materials, weapons, and ammunition, including an AK series rifle and three magazines, were found. To further investigate and look into their possible involvement in other terror crimes, all of the recovered materials have been added to case files. In this regard, an investigation has been started and a case has been filed with the police under the applicable legal provisions. SRINAGAR: Although the minimum temperature increased slightly, the extremely cold weather persisted in Jammu and Kashmir, with Srinagar recording a low of minus 3.0°C on Friday. SC Collegium Recommends 5 Names For Judgeship In 4 HCs

New Delhi, Jan 5: The Centre has received five recommendations from the Supreme Court collegium, which is led by Chief Justice D. Y. Chandrachud, for the appointment of additional judges to four high courts. The collegiums, which also included justices Sanjiv Khanna and B R Gavai, suggested the appointment of two more judges as permanent judges: justices Rahul Bharti and Moksha Khajuria Kazmi from the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court. According to one of the recommendations, Justice Abhay Ahuja, an extra judge, should also be given consideration for a permanent appointment to the Bombay High Court. A number of collegium resolutions that were posted on the website of the Supreme court on Thursday night gave information about the discussions that resulted in suggestions for the names of advocates and judicial officers to be appointed to high court judges.One of the resolutions stated, "The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended Smt. Chaitali Chatterjee (Das), Judicial Officer, for appointment as Judge of the High Court at Calcutta in the following terms." Additionally, it sent the names of Arvind Kumar Verma, a judicial officer, for consideration of appointment to the Chhattisgarh High Court as a judge. An additional resolution requested that the Centre take into consideration the appointment of advocate Rohit Kapoor as a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.The statement read, "Ms. Shamima Jahan, an advocate, and Ms. Yarenjungla Longkumer, a judicial officer, have been recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium to be appointed as judges of the Gauhati High Court." The seniority of those whose names were recommended before Kapoor for appointment as judges of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana was not to be disturbed, the apex court collegiums made clear while making the recommendations.The Collegium also decides to suggest that two advocates, S/Shri (i) Harmeet Singh Grewal and (ii) Deepinder Singh Nalwa, whose names have already been approved by this Collegium at a previous date, namely October 17, 2023, be given priority over Shri Rohit Kapoor when it comes to appointment. It stated, "The three advocates' inter se seniority shall be fixed in accordance with current practice. Before recommending names for judgeships, the collegiums considered the professional competence of the candidates as well as the input of the respective governments and consultee apex court judges. Chandigarh, Jan 5: During searches by the Enforcement Directorate against former INLD MLA Dilbag Singh and his associates, foreign-made weapons, approximately 300 cartridges, Rs 5 crore cash and more than 100 spirits bottles were found, according to official sources on Friday. On Thursday, the central agency began raiding the residence of Sonipat Congress MLA and former legislator Surender Panwar. The raids were related to a money laundering case involving suspected illicit mining in the Yamunanagar district of Haryana. The sources said that from the locations connected to Singh and his associates, approximately Rs 5 crore in cash, alleged "illegal" foreign-made weapons, about 300 cartridges, more than 100 spirits bottles, 4-5 kg of gold, and documents pertaining to assets in India and abroad had been recovered.They said that searches are still ongoing at some locations. The two politicians and associated entities had about 20 locations in Yamunanagar, Sonipat, Mohali, Faridabad, Chandigarh, and Karnal covered during the raids carried out in accordance with the PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act). Singh was a Yamunanagar-based member of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD). The money laundering case is the result of multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) filed by the Haryana Police to investigate past alleged illegal mining of boulders, gravel, and sand in Yamunanagar and surrounding districts, even after the lease had expired and a court order had been issued. The central agency is also looking into claims of fraud in the "e-Ravana" scheme, an online portal that the Haryana government launched in 2020 to make it easier to collect taxes and royalties and to stop tax evasion in mining areas. India-UAE joint military exercise ‘Desert Cyclone’ underway in Rajasthan

NEW DELHI:Rajasthan is the site of the joint military exercise between the UAE and India called "Desert Cyclone." During peacekeeping missions, the exercise will improve both sides' coordination and interoperability. Exercise 'Desert Cyclone' will prepare drills involving the creation of a Joint Surveillance Centre, Cordon and Search Operation, Domination of Built-Up Area, and Heliborne Operations. Additionally, the exercise will promote cooperative teamwork and facilitate the exchange of best practices between the two parties. This exercise is a sign of the friendship and trust between India and the UAE being strengthened even more. About 502 commercial establishments will be affected by the project, including 365 retail stores, 10 car showrooms with both private and public vehicles, construction equipment and service centres, 37 godowns, 5 schools, 65 office spaces, 7 hospitals, 5 malls, and 8 shops housed in sheds in both public and private buildings. The impact of the livelihood would extend beyond the businesses to the households (HH) who would lose their stores. Since godowns are only used to support businesses, losing them will have a direct impact on a household's source of income in addition to causing inconvenience with regard to storing goods. As a result, 587 commercial establishments will face a loss of revenue due to this, which will have an immediate effect on Jammu's economy. Since both residential and commercial areas are included in the section from Kunjwani to Narwal, we think a community-friendly pillar-based design for the motorway flyover would be more appropriate.We would like to draw your attention to the fact that the construction of a proposed flyover from Kunjwani to Satwari section, up to the Government College for Women in Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, is putting the livelihood of sixty-five shopkeepers in grave danger. The proposed flyover design puts these shopkeepers, who have operated their businesses for more than 60 years, in danger of losing their jobs. Recognising how vital these companies are to the neighbourhood, we humbly ask that the flyover be moved slightly—by 1.5 meters—in order to preserve the jobs of at least 45 store owners. This change would demonstrate the government's support for regional companies while also protecting these families' financial security.
