Alaska Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing In Oregon After Window And Chunk Of Fuselage Blow Out

PORTLAND, Jan 6: Not long after takeoff, a window and a portion of the fuselage of an Alaska Airlines aircraft blew out in midair, forcing an emergency landing in Oregon on Friday. A photo of a massive hole in the airplane's side next to the passenger seats was sent to KATU-TV by a traveller. It was unclear right away if anyone had been hurt. According to the airline, the aircraft, carrying 174 passengers and 6 crew members, landed safely. The airline said via email that "Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 from Portland, Oregon to Ontario, California experienced an incident this evening shortly after departure." The airline promised to provide more details as soon as they were made available.Flight tracking data indicates that the plane was diverted approximately six minutes after takeoff at 5:07 p.m. after reaching a height of 16,000 feet (4,876 metres). At 5:26 p.m., it landed once more. The crew reported a pressurisation problem, and the plane landed safely, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The organisation promised to look into it. In a post on X, the National Transportation Safety Board stated that it was looking into an incident that occurred during the flight and would provide updates as soon as they became available. NEW DELHI: The crew members of the Indian-owned vessel MV Lili Norfolk expressed their gratitude to the Indian Navy for saving them. 774 Fresh Covid Cases In India

New Delhi, Jan 6: India has seen an increase in COVID-19 cases in a single day of 774, with 4,187 active cases as of Saturday, according to the Union health ministry. According to data updated by the ministry at 8 am, two deaths were reported in a span of 24 hours, one from Gujarat and one from Tamil Nadu. Up until December 5, there were double digits of cases per day. However, due to the cold weather and the appearance of a new COVID-19 variant, JN.1, the number of cases started to rise once more. According to official sources, the greatest single-day increase of 841 cases after December 5 was recorded on December 31, 2023, or 0.2% of the peak cases recorded in May 2021.More than 92% of the 4,187 active cases are being treated at home in isolation. "The currently available data suggests that the JN.1 variant is not causing an exponential rise in new cases nor a surge in hospitalisation and mortality," an official source stated. Three waves of COVID-19 have struck India in the past; the Delta wave, which is expected to last from April to June 2021, had the highest daily case and fatality rate. On May 7, 2021, 4,14,188 cases and 3,915 deaths were recorded, marking the peak. Over 4.5 crore people have been infected and over 5.3 lakh have died nationwide since the pandemic started in early 2020.According to the ministry's website, over 4.4 crore people have recovered from the illness, meaning that the country's recovery rate is 98.81 percent. SRINAGAR: As a cold wave-like weather pattern descended upon the region on Saturday, officials reported that a thin layer of ice had formed on the surface of Dal Lake here and other bodies of water in Kashmir. On Friday night, the minimum temperature in a few areas of the valley fell below minus four degrees Celsius. The 40-day severe winter "Chilla-i-Kalan" that is currently affecting Kashmir causes temperatures to plummet, causing pipes and bodies of water to freeze. During this time, there is a greater chance of snowfall, and most places—especially the higher reaches—get a lot of snowfall. According to officials, the minimum temperature in Srinagar city on Friday night was minus 5.4 degrees Celsius, which was a decrease from the previous night's reading of minus 3 degrees Celsius. It was reported that on Friday night, the minimum temperature at the ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir was 4.5 degrees Celsius, slightly lower than the minimum recorded the night before in Qazigund, which recorded a low of minus 4.6 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature of minus 6.3 degrees Celsius was recorded in Pahalgam, in the Anantnag district of south Kashmir, which is one of the base camps for the yearly Amarnath Yatra. This is a decrease from the previous night's minus 4.5 degrees Celsius, according to reports. In Kokernag town, the lowest recorded temperature was -2.9 degrees Celsius, while in Kupwara, it was -5.4 degrees Celsius. It was difficult for the occupants of the houseboats at Dal Lake to break through the layer of ice covering the lake to get to the banks. In the Kashmir valley, pipes' water also froze in some areas. Due to the protracted dry spell that Kashmir has been experiencing, there was a 79% rainfall deficit in December.
