682 Cases Of Covid Sub-Variant JN.1 Reported From 12 States Till Jan 7

New Delhi, Jan 8: Official sources stated on Monday that the number of COVID-19 sub-variant JN.1 cases recorded from 12 states until January 7 had increased to 682. Karnataka has recorded 199 incidents, Kerala has reported 148, Maharashtra has reported 139, Goa has reported 47, Gujarat has reported 36, Andhra Pradesh has reported 30, Rajasthan has reported 30, Tamil Nadu has reported 26, Delhi has reported 21, Odisha has reported 3, Telangana has reported 2, and Haryana has reported one. Despite the fact that the number of cases is increasing and the JN.1 sub-variant has been found nationwide, authorities stated that there is no need for immediate concern because the majority of infected individuals are choosing home-based treatment, which suggests a minor sickness.Due to an increase in Covid cases and the discovery of the JN.1 sub-variant in the nation, the Centre has requested that the states and Union territories keep a continuous watch. J&K Admin Imposes Night Curfew Along International Border In Samba

JAMMU, Jan 8: According to an official order, a night curfew has been implemented along the International Border (IB) in the Samba region of Jammu & Kashmir to improve area dominance by BSF personnel and prevent any illicit activity near the borderline. According to the order issued by District Magistrate Abhishek Sharma on Sunday, the action was done to prevent cross-border infiltration and the smuggling of weapons using drones in the extremely foggy weather conditions prevalent along the Indo-Pak border line. The directive states that civilian movement along a one-kilometer stretch from the IB in the Samba district has been prohibited from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.The DM issued the order, using Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code to establish a night curfew along the International Border (IB). "No person or group of persons shall move in the area up to one kilometre along the International Border in district Samba from 2100 hours to 0600 hours during the night," the DM stated. The directive came about as a result of recommendations made by Border Security Force (BSF) authorities to the district-level standing committee. The BSF suggested imposing a daily night curfew on a one-kilometer-long strip from the IB to help them carry out their duties more efficiently. "The district administration believes that restricting people's movement in border areas is necessary to improve border area domination by the BSF and undermine the devious plans of forces hostile to Indian security," the DM stated in the directive. According to Sharma, if movement is required, the person or people in question must provide their corresponding ID cards to the BSF and police officials. "Anyone found in violation of the previously issued order will face legal consequences." "This order is being issued ex-parte, as it cannot be served individually," the order stated.It further stated, "If not withdrawn or rescinded earlier, this order shall come into force with immediate effect and shall remain in force for a period of two months from the date of its issuance." Jammu, Jan 8: Over 2,000 birds perished in a fire that started at a poultry farm on the outskirts of Jammu city, according to officials on Monday. They said that the event happened on Sunday night on the farm owned by a man named Ranjeet Singh in the Doke Jagir area of Akhnoor tehsil here. The abrupt onset of the fire immediately spread throughout the entire poultry factory and eventually consumed the entire farm, according to the officials. They added that the fierce fire claimed the lives of almost 2,000 hens. They also stated that efforts are being made to determine the cause of the fire and evaluate the degree of the damage. New Delhi, Jan 8: The Gujarat government's decision to provide remission to 11 prisoners in the case of gangraping Bilkis Bano and killing seven of her family members during the 2002 state riots was overturned by the Supreme Court on Monday. The court claimed that the decisions were "stereotypical" and made without consideration for the facts. The prisoners were given a two-week deadline by a bench of Justices B V Nagarathna and Ujjal Bhuyan to turn themselves in to the jail administration. The bench stated that the Gujarati government was not the right government to issue the remission order, holding the PIL contesting the remission to be maintainable.The supreme court made it clear that the State has the authority to choose whether to grant a convict's remission plea once an offender is prosecuted and sentenced. Maharashtra conducted the trials for the guilty. We didn't have to discuss the other matters. However, we have for the sake of completion. The Gujarat administration has violated the rule of law by usurping and abusing its authority that was not granted to it. The bench declared that the remission orders should be annulled on that basis as well. The ruling took more than a hundred pages to complete. The top court further declared as "nullity" a ruling from a different bench dated May 13, 2022, which requested that the Gujarat government take into account convicts' pleas for remission because the pleas were obtained by "playing fraud on the court" and by omitting important information. It said that this was a textbook instance of the court's order being utilised to subvert the rule of law by giving remission. The supreme court declared that the takeover of power and the misuse of the legal system on May 13, 2022, had violated the rule of law. The bench declared, "We strike down the remission orders on the ground of Gujarat government's usurpation of power."On October 12 of last year, following an 11-day hearing on the petitions, including Bano's, the supreme court had reserved its decision. The top court reserved its decision, but it did order the Centre and the Gujarat government to provide the original documentation pertaining to the 11 convicts' sentence remission by October 16. During its September 2018 hearing, the Supreme Court questioned whether prisoners had a basic right to request a reduction in their sentence. The supreme court had noted during the previous arguments that state governments ought to give all prisoners the chance to reform and reintegrate into society and that they shouldn't be allowed to be selective in the remission of sentences.In addition to Bano's petition challenging the remission that the Gujarat government had granted them, a number of other PILs have also contested the relief, including one from CPI(M) leader Subhashini Ali, independent journalist Revati Laul, and former vice-chancellor of Lucknow University Roop Rekha Verma. SRINAGAR: Monday's icy temperatures in Kashmir Valley persisted without a break, with a low of minus 4.3°C recorded in Srinagar, the day after the city saw the coldest night of the season. According to a meteorological department official, the temperature was 1.9°C lower than usual for this time of year in J&K's summer capital. He added that the previous evening's minimum temperature in Srinagar was minus 5.6°C. According to him, Qazigund recorded a minimum temperature of - 4.2°C as opposed to minus 5.0°C the night before. According to the MeT official, the minimum temperature was 1.1°C lower than usual for Kashmir's gateway town. Pahalgam saw a low of minus 5.3°C, down from minus 6.5°C the night before. This was 1.7°C above average for the well-known south Kashmiri resort.According to the official, Kokernag, located in south Kashmir, saw a minimum temperature of minus 2.1°C, down from minus 2.7°C the night before. The temperature was also 1.9°C higher than usual for the area. According to the official, Kupwara town in north Kashmir saw a low of minus 5.0°C, down from minus 5.3°C the night before. It was also 2.3°C below average. According to the official, Gulmarg saw a low of minus 4.0°C, down from minus 4.4°C the night before. The temperature was also 3.8°C higher than usual for the well-known north Kashmiri skiing resort.
