ADGP Jammu felicitates Taekwondo National medal winners

JAMMU: In the Sub Junior National Taekwondo Championship, which was held in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, and was organised by the Taekwondo Federation of India under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Poonch Taekwondo Club brought honours home with one silver and one bronze medal. The J&K Taekwondo Association, with sponsorship from the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, sent a team of eighteen boys and girls to compete in the championship. Arohi Dutta of the Poonch Taekwondo Club defeated West Bengal and Punjab, while Mohd Arhaan of Poonch demonstrated exceptional taekwondo abilities by defeating opponents from the States of Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, and Haryana.Rajinder Singh, a Taekwondo coach from the Department of Youth Services and Sports Poonch, taught both of these athletes. As both medallists arrived, ADGP Jammu Anand Jain expressed gratitude to them both for representing Jammu and Kashmir UT with pride by winning a national medal. Additionally, he pledged to provide all assistance necessary for the growth of Taekwondo in Poonch, the border district, through their civic action programme. Makhan Lal Sharma, the president of the Poonch District Taekwondo Association, and all of the association's officers congratulated the victors and their parents on their accomplishment. Court denies bail in Sumedha Sharma murder case

JAMMU: In the widely reported murder case of Sumedha Sharma, Dr. Johar Mehmood's bail application was denied by Principal Sessions Judge Jammu Sanjay Parihar on Wednesday. Sumedha Sharma's body was found in his wounded state when it was recovered from the petitioner's home. Investigation revealed that the petitioner was having an affair with the dead girl, who was enrolled in Indraprastha Dental College's Post Graduation in Dental Sciences programme in Ghaziabad at the time. The deceased learned in December 2022 that the petitioner was unfaithful to her because he was seeing another woman. Following this, the deceased got in touch with the girl and requested that she stop dating the petitioner. "Grant of bail to the petitioner on health grounds appears to be imaginary, however, this does not prevent the petitioner/accused from moving a formal application requesting court to conduct enquiry that he is person of unsound mind, thus, incapable to defend" , the judge stated, adding that "until said application is made or enquiry conducted, he cannot be given benefit of bail merely at his asking when the material available on record and the conduct of the accused in jail nowhere show him that he is suffering from any kind of mental ailment" . Leopard spotted inside Sainik School in Nagrota

JAMMU: On Wednesday, after a leopard was seen inside a school building, panic swept over the Nagrota district. According to a police spokeswoman, at around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, some residents saw the animal inside the Sainik School Nagrota gate and alerted the authorities. He claimed that as a result, a team from the Nagrota Police Station arrived on the scene and notified the Wildlife Department as well. Anil K Atri, the Additional Director of Jambu Zoo and Wildlife Warden, stated, "Our team is on the spot but they've not traced the animal." Wildlife creatures are frequently spotted in the Sainik School region since they use this path to travel to Tawi in order to rehydrate. After consuming the water, the animal may have vanished back into the forest, he speculated. EC seeks 3.4 lakh CAPFs for deployment in LS polls, Assembly elections in 4 states

NEW DELHI:  3.4 lakh members of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) have been requested by the Election Commission (EC) to be phased in for the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Sikkim. The EC has also made efforts to secure sufficient rolling stocks and all necessary amenities in the trains, guaranteeing a seamless mobilisation and prompt deployment of the forces to carry out election-related tasks.The chief electoral officers of all states and Union territories have requested the deployment of CAPFs for poll-related duties, such as area domination, confidence-building measures, poll day-related duties, guarding of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and strong room centres, counting centre security, etc. during the elections, according to a communication from the EC to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). In order to guarantee free, fair, and peaceful elections, the commission has taken into account the recommendations made by the state CEOs and decided to progressively deploy up to 3,400 businesses of CAPFs throughout all states and Union territory, according to the communication. A CAPF company employs about one hundred people. It is anticipated that 920 CAPF companies will be deployed in West Bengal in phases, with another 635 companies in Jammu and Kashmir, 360 in Chhattisgarh, 295 in Bihar, 252 in Uttar Pradesh, and 250 in each of Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Punjab.
