Jammu-Srinagar National Highway Partially Restored For Traffic

SRINAGAR, Feb 2: The two days of closure of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway owing to snowfall and stone shooting at different locations have been partially lifted, according to officials. After restoration work at several locations was finished and stranded vehicles were cleared, traffic on the roadway was reopened today afternoon, according to a traffic police official. J&K traffic police posted on X said, "Commuters are advised to drive cautiously, as part of the road near Sherbibi is single lane and also slippery at several places."For the second day in a row, surface travel to the rest of the country was halted on Friday in the Kashmir valley due to the highway being closed due to snowfall and stone shooting in many locations. To make Kishtwari Pather, Sherbibi, Magerkote, Mehad-Cafeteria, and Dalwas traffic-worthy, restoration work was done there. The crucial Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) road connecting Ladakh and the historic Mughal road linking the Shopian district of south Kashmir with the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch in the Jammu division have both been closed for the past three days due to snow accumulation.There were also reports of multiple roads in north Kashmir being closed because of snowfall, connecting distant locations. Existing Laws Have Provisions To Deal With Violence Against Doctors: Mandaviya

NEW DELHI, Feb 2: In response to reports of attacks on doctors while they were performing their responsibilities, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Mansukh Mandaviya stated on Friday that existing laws contain safeguards to protect doctors from violence. The minister was answering a question posed in the Lok Sabha by Congressman Shashi Tharoor, who was looking for laws to shield medical professionals from violence in the workplace. Along with calling for financial and legal support for victims of such violence, Tharoor also mentioned a Keralan doctor who was killed while performing her duties.According to Mandaviya, there are laws in place that provide for the prosecution of those who injure medical professionals. She also stated that since doctors are revered, it is crucial to safeguard them. In response to follow-up inquiries about telemedicine consultations, Mandaviya stated that telemedicine is making healthcare more accessible to the underprivileged. According to a report cited by the minister, between three and four lakh people receive telemedicine consultations each day, with each patient saving an estimated Rs. 900. Comparisons with MS Dhoni hurt but there’s nobody like him in my life: Rishabh Pant

NEW DELHI: For a while now, Rishabh Pant has been getting advice from Mahendra Singh Dhoni, but there was a moment when the young keeper-batter found it difficult "to breathe" due to the similarities with the renowned former India captain. Pant, who is still in recovery from a near-fatal vehicle accident in 2022, said that Dhoni is currently the only person he feels safe talking almost anything about in his life with. However, he also acknowledged that in the early stages of his career, it was difficult to accept comparisons to the legendary Ranchi man. "I used to have terrible feelings. When I was 20 or 21 years old, I used to cry and go back to my room. I was breathing heavily under pressure. I was under a lot of strain and wasn't sure what to do. As the audience began to shout "Dhoni Dhoni," I missed a stumping in Mohali," Pant claimed in a "Star Sports" series that chronicled his recuperation from the injury. Speaking about his relationship dynamics with the 2011 World Cup winner, Pant stated that at this point he feels emotionally overloaded. It's never easy for me to describe my relationship with MS Dhoni. There are certain people you may speak freely with. All of this is discussed with MSD. He's taught me so much already."I talk to him about things that I wouldn't talk to anyone else about. That's the nature of my relationship with him," Pant remarked. Before the terrible crash turned things ugly, Pant, who was unquestionably India's greatest game-changer in Test cricket, admitted that he was honestly perplexed by the comparisons to Dhoni, a true legend. "To begin with, I didn't understand the purpose of the questions. People were discussing me as a replacement when I had just joined the squad," Pant remarked. "Why were people asking such pointed questions of a child? For what reason are you drawing comparisons? There ought to be no analogy whatsoever. While some have played 500 matches, others have just played five. The comparison is unfair because there have been so many ups and downs throughout the lengthy road." Pant remarked that for helping him feel at ease when he initially arrived, elders like Yuvraj Singh would always have his gratitude. "I was extremely young when we started, and there were a lot of experienced players—a lot of them, in fact. Seniors Yuvraj Singh and MS were present. I didn't feel like they were extremely seniors, but it does take some time. They were really kind and made me feel at home. Every new player feels extremely at ease with them. "This is the Indian team's culture," he declared. [caption id="attachment_10137" align="alignnone" width="300"] Comparisons…

Not Hopeful Of Centre Holding Assembly Polls In J&K In 2024, Says Congress’ Bhakt Charan Das

Jammu, Feb 2: Former Member of Parliament and senior Congress leader Bhakta Charan Das expressed his pessimism on Friday over the BJP-led central government's ability to organise assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir by the end of September. But he asserted that by holding the eagerly anticipated elections in the Union Territory, the government should honour democracy, popular opinion, and the ruling of the Supreme Court. Speaking to media prior to a meeting behind closed doors with the 26-member J&K Pradesh Election committee, Das is the head of the cluster-IV screening committee that recommends party candidates for the Lok Sabha elections.The Supreme Court, which ordered assembly elections to be held before the end of September, democracy, and the goals of the people of Jammu and Kashmir should all be respected by the government led by Narendra Modi. If the government is willing, the election can take place, but I do not think it will. In many locations, they have shown little respect for democracy. However, it would be beneficial if the assembly polls were held here, the Congress leader stated. He was answering a query concerning the party's setup for the Union Territory assembly elections. The Congress announced the creation of five screening committees last month in order to propose party candidates for the Lok Sabha elections. States and Union territories have been divided into five groups by the party.Nearly the whole northern region of India is covered by the cluster-IV screening committee. After the first round of voting with the Pradesh Congress, we will discuss some technical matters today, such as the alliance partners and how to contest the upcoming lower house election. We want to present our findings to the five-member screening committee that was established specifically for this reason," he declared. He indicated that to clear up any misunderstandings, a conversation is ongoing with the alliance's partners. "We don't have the authority to make decisions. That is beyond of our purview. We support technical work, with a separate committee handling political negotiations and finalising candidates (in collaboration with alliance partners).However, Das stated that "all the alliance partners must move together" and that the INDIA bloc is "very important" for Jammu and Kashmir as well as the nation. An official stated that about 60 BJP employees and 150 AAP employees had been arrested and transported in buses to different police stations. Wherever the Delhi police stops them, they were instructed to stop. Virendra Sachdeva, the head of the BJP's Delhi unit, led the demonstration. More than a thousand people, according to an official, were stationed along ITO and DDU Marg. The BJP has stated that its people are protesting outside the AAP headquarters against "corruption" in the Arvind Kejriwal government, while the AAP is holding a demonstration accusing cheating in the Chandigarh mayoral elections.   [caption id="attachment_10131" align="alignnone" width="300"] Over 200 workers of AAP, BJP detained during protest in Delhi[/caption]

DGP Swain Calls For Strict Action Against Drug Traffickers In J&K

JAMMU, Feb 2: R R Swain, the director general of police for Jammu and Kashmir, has demanded that those who traffic in drugs within the Union Territory face rigorous and deliberate punishment. At this Thursday's monthly crime review meeting, Swain declared, "The (narcotics) trade is extremely dangerous, as it not only destroys the younger generation but is also being used to generate funds to support terrorist activities." He gave the officers orders to deal with the drug trafficking offenders in a severe and organised manner.According to a police spokesperson, the DGP also gave them instructions to keep track of drug users and dealers so that more thorough action may be taken. In addition to ordering the indexing of drivers and cars discovered to be involved in the transit of drugs, Swain put pressure on the officers to compile a "master list" of vehicles that committed offences on a regular basis. He highlighted on the categories of victims, peddlers and dealers and encouraged upon the cops to look forward and background linkages gaining from the past experiences.According to the spokesperson, the discussion covered a number of important topics related to enhancing the examination and resolution of criminal cases, including those involving drugs and the smuggling of cattle. "To improve the efficiency of crime disposal, we must create a comprehensive, up-to-date, and accurate database of the criminals," stated the DGP. "The crime picture of a district or zone should highlight the rate of disposal and quality of disposal of the crime cases registered." According to Swain, "a strong crime case database will aid in utilising the data for investigations." The trade is frequently linked to other illegal activities, such as the transfer of criminals and illegal materials, so the DGP instructed the cops to take strict action against bovine smugglers.“Strict action must be initiated against the vehicle owners whose vehicles are repeatedly used for the trade,” he stated. To further incentivize the officers, the DGP declared that the best district and best police station will be awarded to those who perform exceptionally well in the investigations.
