GANGTOK: According to officials on Thursday, the Indian Army has rescued 1,217 tourists who were stuck in high-altitude regions of eastern Sikkim because of snowfall and bad weather. The tourists were relocated to safer areas, given shelter, warm clothing, medical attention, and hot meals, and the rescue operation by the army’s Trishakti Corps lasted until late in the evening on Wednesday, they said. The officials stated that plans are in place for them to return to Gangtok, the state capital. They said that soldiers even left their barracks to make room for the stranded tourists.
