SRINAGAR: Kashmir police chief VK Birdi on Saturday said that Arigam Kulgam encounter was an intelligence based operation.
An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Kulgam’s Arigam area, leaving four security personnel injured including a senior police officer.
IGP Birdi said, “Security forces received information about terrorist movement late at night. When they reached, they were fired upon, initiating the encounter,” he said.
The injured personnel three security forces and one police officer have minor injuries and are in stable condition, he added.
The operation is ongoing, Birdi added.
Meanwhile, IGP Birdi confirmed that preparations are complete for the third phase of J&K assembly elections in five North Kashmir districts.
“The J&K police has made all necessary arrangements for the upcoming phase,” he said.
