SRINAGAR: According to officials on Saturday, Kashmir experienced a brief reprieve from the cold wave conditions, with temperatures above freezing throughout the Valley, with the exception of Gulmarg, during the night. According to a meteorological department official, Srinagar’s minimum temperature was 1.2°C, which was higher than the city’s typical temperature of 2.0°C for this time of year and minus 3.3°C the night before. According to him, Qazigund recorded a minimum of 1.4°C as opposed to minus 3.3°C the night before. According to the MeT official, the minimum temperature was 3.4°C higher than usual for Kashmir’s gateway town. In contrast to the previous night’s low of minus 4.8°C, Pahalgam recorded a low of 0.2°C, which was 5.2°C above average for the well-known south Kashmir resort. According to the official, Kokernag, located in south Kashmir, saw a minimum temperature of 1.2°C the night before, compared to minus 3.0°C the night before. The temperature was also 1.2°C higher than usual for the area. According to the official, Kupwara town in north Kashmir saw a low of 1.3°C, down from minus 3.4°C the night before, and was 3.9°C above average. According to the official, Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 1.5°C, down from minus 1.0°C the night before, and the temperature was 4.3°C higher than usual for the well-known north Kashmiri skiing resort. According to him, Jammu recorded a minimum temperature of 10.5°C, which was 2.0°C below normal for the winter capital of J&K, compared to 8.5°C the night before. According to him, Banihal recorded 6.6°C, Batote 8.5°C, and Bhaderwah 7.4°C. The weather is predicted to be mainly dry from December 24 to 26, according to the MeT official. On December 27, mostly cloudy conditions are predicted with the chance of light snowfall over a few isolated higher regions. Generally speaking, December 28–31 is going to be dry. “Overall there is no significant weather activity till December ending” .
