Godda (Jharkhand), Feb 3: Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh stated on Saturday that the party believes West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee remains a member of the opposition INDIA and that all members of the party ought to unite to oppose the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections. His remarks were made the day after Banerjee expressed scepticism over the Congress’s ability to win even 40 seats in the Lok Sabha. “We are assuming that she (Mamata Banerjee) is still part of the INDIA bloc, a group of 27 parties,” stated Ramesh, standing by Rahul Gandhi’s “Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra” in Godda. She says that fighting the BJP is her first concern. Combating the BJP is also our top goal. I believe it would be best if we all got together.“We travelled to Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Patna together. However, it appears that something happened. After the Shiv Sena split, Nitish Kumar performed his “Palti.” It is Mamata Banerjee ji who is saying these things now. “It’s important for us to understand that these are not municipal elections,” he stated.
“I proposed that Congress contest 300 seats (across the country where BJP is the main opposition), but they refused to heed,” Banerjee remarked on Friday while speaking during a dharna in Kolkata. If they ran for 300 seats, I doubt they would win even 40.
