NEW DELHI: On Thursday, IndiGo announced that it has ceased to collect fuel charges from tickets, almost three months after enacting the fee in response to an increase in the cost of jet fuel. With effect from Thursday, the fuel charge—which the airline had implemented in early October 2023—has been eliminated. The airline claimed that the fuel fee has been removed because the cost of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) has recently decreased. “As ATF prices are dynamic, we will continue to adjust our fares and components thereof, to respond to any change in prices or market conditions,” IndiGo stated in a statement. An operational carrier’s expenses are mostly made up of fuel costs. Both domestic and international flights operated by the airline were subject to the fuel charge. According to IndiGo, the fuel fee was implemented in October 2023 in response to an increase in the price of ATF.
