KUPWARA: For the first time in their seventy-five years of independence, two isolated villages in Jammu and Kashmir’s Keran Sector along the Line of Control were connected to electricity on Wednesday. “In a historic moment, the residents of Kundiyan and Patroo villages in the Keran area of the Kupwara district experienced the joy of electricity for the first time in 75 years,” a government spokesperson stated. He said that Divisional Commissioner for Kashmir, V K Bhiduri, officially opened the two 250-KV sub stations established under the Samridh Seema Yojna. According to the spokesman, the people were grateful to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s administration for bringing grid connectivity to the previously isolated communities. “Cheers and jubilation filled the air as lights illuminated their houses, marking the end of decades-long wait,” the spokesperson continued. He said that the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) Electric Division, Kupwara, finished the electrification project in a record two months.
