New Delhi, Dec 30: The number of new COVID-19 infections in India on Saturday was 743, marking the largest increase in 225 days, while the total number of active cases was 3,997, according to the Union health ministry. Seven new deaths were reported in a day, according to data updated by the ministry at 8 am. These deaths came from three different states: Kerala, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, and Tamil Nadu. Up until December 5, there were double digits of cases every day. However, with the arrival of a new COVID-19 variant and the cold weather, the number of cases started to rise once more.At the height of the pandemic, which started in early 2020, the daily figures were expressed in lakhs. In just four years, the virus has killed over 5.3 lakh people nationwide and infected over 4.5 crore people. According to the ministry’s website, over 4.4 crore people have recovered from the illness, meaning that the country’s recovery rate is 98.81 percent. As per the website, a total of 220.67 crore COVID-19 doses have been administered across the nation thus far.
