NEW DELHI, Dec 18: In a forceful defence of the repeal of Article 370, Prime Minister Narendra Modi cited the Supreme Court’s support for his government’s action. He claimed that no power in the universe could reinstate the constitutional provisions that had been revoked and that the legislation had ushered in a new era of development in the once-terrorist areas of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, which are now popular travel destinations.“After 370, J&K and Ladakh are different places, crowded with tourists rather than terrorists. Stone-pelting has stopped while films are being filmed and screened. Families in Kashmir have embraced the shift. In an interview with the Hindi daily Dainik Jagran, the PM stated, “As for those who are spreading confusion because of their political motives, I want to make it clear: no power in this universe can bring back Article 370.” The prime minister cited the recent Supreme Court ruling as evidence that the nation could not have two constitutions.For the people of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, repealing Article 370 was more crucial than pursuing any political goal. People there want to join the mainstream of growth and secure a safe future for their children, he said. For a long time, a few family-dominated parties ruled the region.
