In Kishtwar, Video Of Man Assaulting Cop Goes Viral, Accused Nabbed

JAMMU: officials said on Wednesday that Police have arrested a man who was seen in a video assaulting an armed police personnel after knocking him to the ground in Kishtwar district.

According to a police official, Rakeen Ziya of the Sangrambhata village in the district was detained by a police party led by Senior Superintendent of Police (Kishtwar) Khalil Poswal.

After learning of the occurrence, the senior police officer sped to the location and, after a chase, captured the suspect.

According to the police, the alleged incident happened on Tuesday in Zelna village when the officer, who was assigned as the Assistant Regional Transport Office’s (ARTO) personal security officer, sought to stop Ziya from acting inappropriately with his protectee.

The accused is allegedly shown in the widely shared social media video punching and kicking the armed police officer as bystanders attempt to stop him. The officer is knocked to the ground.

Ziya is a self-described goon, according to the police official, who misbehaved with the ARTO and attacked his personal security guard when he attempted to restrain him.

The official claimed that the man also used an iron rod to damage government vehicles, inflicting a significant loss of public property.

A case has been filed against Ziya under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, and an investigation is in progress.
