KOLKATA: When Pakistan and Bangladesh played cricket at the Eden Gardens for the World Cup, four people were arrested at the Maidan police station here, according to the authorities. They had been flying the Palestinian flag. A senior police official stated, “We had detained them for waving the Palestinian flag near Gate 6 and Block G1 (during the match on Tuesday).” He claimed that they did not, however, raise any slogans. The four onlookers, who were residents of the Bally, Ekbalpore, and Karaya regions, were released after some initial interrogation, the official informed . After some investigation, it was discovered that the four, who were all in their mid-20s, were protesting against the current conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza and had picked the international match to do so.
