NEW DELHI: Nita Ambani, an esteemed member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Founder Chairperson of the Reliance Foundation, extended her gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inaugurating the opening ceremony of the 141st IOC session in Mumbai on Saturday.
Addressing the gathering, Ambani expressed her joy and appreciation for the Prime Minister’s presence at the momentous occasion. She acknowledged Prime Minister Modi as the leader of the world’s largest democracy and the visionary behind the “Architect of New India.” Ambani emphasized that the Prime Minister’s unwavering support for sports had been instrumental in bringing the IOC session to India.Ambani warmly welcomed Thomas Bach, the President of the International Olympic Committee, and the delegates from the IOC, marking the historic event in Mumbai. She highlighted the significance of hosting the IOC Session in India after four decades, and it being the first time in Mumbai, referring to the city as “Aamchi Mumbai,” which translates to “Our Mumbai.” She extended a warm welcome to all the attendees.During her address, Nita Ambani emphasized the confluence of two powerful forces, “In this meeting of the IOC, I see the confluence of two wonderful forces. One is the Olympic Movement, which unites humanity and transcends all national, racial, religious, and linguistic barriers. The other is India, the world’s largest democracy as the host of this meeting.”Ambani also took the opportunity to applaud the remarkable achievements of India’s athletes at the recently concluded Asian Games in 2023. She praised the young talents who excelled in diverse sporting disciplines, many of whom come from humble backgrounds. Ambani recognized their presence at the event and urged the audience to give them a well-deserved round of applauseNita Ambani emphasized that India plays a significant role as a torchbearer for the Olympic Movement.
