GST Council Decides To Levy 5 Pc Tax On Millet-Based Flour, If Sold In Pre-Packaged And Labelled Form: FM

New Delhi, Oct 7: According to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the GST Council voted on Saturday to impose reduced 5% tax on millet-based flour when it is supplied in pre-packaged and labelled form. If sold loose, flour containing at least 70% millet will be subject to 0% GST; if sold pre-packaged and labelled, it will be subject to 5% GST. The maximum age of the President and members of the GST Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) was also resolved at the 52nd GST Council meeting, which was presided over by the Union finance minister and attended by state counterparts. The GSTAT President’s age cap will be 70 years, while the members’ age cap will be 67 years.The President and members of GSTAT are now allowed to be 67 and 65 years old, respectively, instead of the previous age restrictions. The Council also voted to exempt alcohol intended for human use from the tax and lower the GST on molasses from 28 to percent.
