SRINAGAR: In contrast to the previous SOP of alternate traffic days, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, V. K. Bidhuri, said on Monday that traffic, including fruit-laden trucks, will now be allowed to ply on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway every day. The Divisional Commissioner told reporters that the decision to enable daily hassle-free traffic on the national route will surely help fruit growers. “Before, we used the Up convoy-Down convoy arrangement, which prohibited traffic from the other side when a convoy departed from Srinagar.Trucks can now operate every day. Fruit growers will benefit greatly from this, he said. He added that this choice was made after the Chief Secretary examined the National Highway and discovered that it was in better shape and that the security situation had also improved, which was good news for the general population. He said that security services are assessing the situation on the highway, taking into account both security and the convenience of the general public, with regard to the temporary stoppage of traffic on the highway. “There was no divider on the highway when the SOP to halt traffic was adopted following the attack on the CRPF in Lethpora. Security authorities will shortly make a judgement after taking all relevant factors into account because the security situation has now greatly improved, he continued.
