Srinagar, Nov 13: A Day after Kashmir University’s Vice Chancellor Nilofar Khan said there was an “attack” on her cavalcade at Zakura on the outskirts of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Wednesday that this could not be corroboratedIn a post on X, Srinagar Police said that the alleged attack on VC Nilofar Khan’s convoy near Zakura could not be substantiated.
“The report about attack on VC of Kashmir University last evening near Zakura could not be corroborated, factoring in all possible circumstances. Police parties who visited the spot did not find corroboration of bullet marks . Entire area was thoroughly searched and nothing corroborating the alleged version was found,” police said
“ The people around and nearby police naaka also did not hear any firing sounds, except some rounds fired by security personnel detailed with VC, who made caution fire purportedly on some perceived suspicion. Matter, however, is being enquired into,” the police said.
Vice Chancellor Khan, who became the first woman to hold the position at Kashmir University in May 2022, reiterated that there was “firing” on her convoy as she was returning from a meeting with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
“It is now for the police to determine what happened,” she said.
