NEW DELHI: As they marched towards each other’s offices at Deen Dayal Upadhayay Marg in this city on Friday afternoon, more than 200 AAP and BJP employees were taken into custody, according to the police. “We have previously devised complex plans involving multiple levels of barriers to prevent labourers from accessing the party headquarters.” An official stated that about 60 BJP employees and 150 AAP employees had been arrested and transported in buses to different police stations. Shortly after chief ministers of Punjab and Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann, departed the demonstration site and told party members to demonstrate peacefully, the AAP march got underway. Wherever the Delhi police stops them, they were instructed to stop. Virendra Sachdeva, the head of the BJP’s Delhi unit, led the demonstration. More than a thousand people, according to an official, were stationed along ITO and DDU Marg. According to the official, two paramilitary companies made up of female employees and members of the Delhi Police’s armed unit were stationed at DDU Marg with batons and anti-riot gear to subdue the demonstrators. According to a police officer, the demonstrators were taken into custody at approximately 1:45 pm and transferred to different police stations, where they will be released a short while later. Due to protests by the AAP and BJP, security has been increased throughout central Delhi since this morning. Multiple routes leading to the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg have been barricaded with layers of barricades, and more policemen have been deployed. The BJP has stated that its people are protesting outside the AAP headquarters against “corruption” in the Arvind Kejriwal government, while the AAP is holding a demonstration accusing cheating in the Chandigarh mayoral elections.
