JAMMU, Sept 13: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Gandhi Nagar area today claimed they have solved eight theft cases by arresting several accused and recovering stolen property worth Rs 28 lakh from their possession.Addressing media persons here, SP Jammu South, Ajay Sharma said that acting on multiple complaints, 8 FIRs were registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar.
Accordingly, he said, a special team led by SHO Gandhi Nagar, Inspector Jai Paul Sharma under the supervision of SDPO Gandhi Nagar, was constituted.
After hectic efforts, the team apprehended two accused-Shubam of Gurha Bakshi Nagar, Jammu, and Sahil Kumar of Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu, the police officer said.
He said on their disclosure, two more accused-Vikas Bhalla of Sharika Vihar, Roop Nagar, and Sunny Gupta of Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu, were arrested.
From their possession, the police official said, gold jewellery worth Rs 25 lakh was recovered, leading to the solving of six FIRs.
In another breakthrough regarding a series of thefts in Government quarters at Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, the SP Jammu South said sustained technical analysis of CCTV and Smart City camera footage led to the arrest of four accused-Sumit Athwal, Rohit Khokhar alias Rajan, a juvenile, and Mohit, all residents of Valmiki Colony, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
While three are presently in judicial/observation custody, Mohit remains in police custody, he said.
On their disclosure, police recovered seven stolen batteries, sanitary fittings worth Rs 1.5 lakh, and one stolen Scooty linked to FIR number 207/2024 registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar, the police officer said.
With these recoveries, he said, a total of 8 theft cases were successfully solved by Police Station Gandhi Nagar, restoring valuable property to rightful owners and bringing relief to the community.
