Chandigarh, Aug 6: The Punjab Police reported on Sunday that one of its largest drug busts to date resulted in the seizure of 77 kilogrammes of heroin from four suspects in a trans-border drug smuggling ring.
According to Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, the seizure was conducted by the Counter Intelligence Wing, Ferozepur, in two different operations.He said that three pistols had also been taken from the smugglers by police.
“One of the biggest heroin seizures of 2023: In two separate intelligence-led operations, Counter Intelligence, #Ferozepur has apprehended 4 drug traffickers and recovered 77Kg heroin (41Kg+36Kg) and 3 pistols,” the DGP tweeted.
The modules were heavily involved in Punjab’s trans-border and inter-state narcotics smuggling, he continued.In conjunction with the seizures, cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act were filed in Fazilka, and additional research is being done, according to Yadav.
