JAIPUR: The three new criminal justice laws were passed with the motto “citizen first, dignity first, and justice first,” according to Prime Minister Narendra Modiwho also stated on Sunday that the police must now use data rather than “danda” in their job. Speaking during the 58th conference of Inspector Generals and Director Generals of Police (DGPs and IGPs) in this location, Modi urged the police to prioritise women’s safety so that they can operate with courage “kabhi bhi aur kahin bhi (anytime, anywhere).” He underlined that the new criminal laws were written with the motto “citizen first, dignity first, and justice first” and that police must now use “data” rather than “danda” in their job. The recently adopted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam have superseded the Indian Evidence Act of 1872, the Code of Criminal Procedure of 1898, and the Indian Penal Code of 1860. The prime minister said that the new laws marked paradigm shift in India’s criminal justice system. He noted that special emphasis was paid to educating people about the rights of women and girls and the protections provided by the new legislation. According to Modi, the Indian police should develop into state-of-the-art, global force by 2047, when the nation will celebrate its 100th anniversary of independence, aiding in the achievement of the nation’s development objectives.
