JAMMU:The Jammu and Kashmir Police fined the owners of 298 cars and impounded 20 of them in the districts of Doda and Rajouri on Friday as part of a crackdown on traffic infractions, officials said. They said that during the drive, three drivers were also taken into custody for breaking the rules governing motor vehicles. In response to public complaints about overloading, reckless driving, and poor road conditions, the police and administration have taken action. This comes after the tragic accident in the Trungal Assar area of Doda district on Wednesday, which resulted in 39 fatalities and 19 injuries.“The police are taking a tough stance against traffic offenders. They have started a special drive and increased their monitoring of all routes in the district. Thirteen cars have been seized and 132 have been challaned, an official stated. In addition, five formal complaints were filed against the drivers for overloading, according to the police, who also stated that the drivers were taken into custody and their cars seized. In addition to impounding seven vehicles and fining 166 offenders, the police in Rajouri conducted a district-wide operation. They also reported that one case for reckless driving had been filed at the Manjakote police station. According to the police, an appeal has been made to everyone to ensure that they follow traffic laws in letter and spirit and to properly coordinate with law enforcement to prevent accidents on the roads.
