RAJOURI: At least 22 persons, including women and children were injured when a wall collapsed at Morha Kappa Kha in Dhannidhar area of Rajouri district during a marriage ceremony.
Reports said that the incident took place at the residence of Mohammed Adrees, a resident of Kappa Kha, where wedding celebration was going on. The `Baratis’ were returning to the village back in the evening, when the mishap occurred. A large number of people were watching them taking support of this old wall.
According to locals, between 6:00 and 6:30 PM, heavy and torrential rainfall lashed the area. It is reported that pipes had been placed along a wall of the house to support a tent. The rain apparently weakened the wall structure, causing it to collapse. The debris of wall, along with pipes and other material, fell on the people gathered for the celebration, leading to injuries.
Following the collapse, local residents along with the police acted swiftly and transported the injured to Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri.
Dr Shamim Ahmed, Medical Superintendent of GMC Rajouri, confirmed that 22 people were brought to the hospital with injuries. Among them, the condition of two children and one elderly woman was found to be critical, and they were referred to GMC Jammu for further treatment.
The seriously injured were identified as four-year-old Isra Imran, daughter of Mohammad Imran, resident of Kappa Kha; 9-year-old Anaya, daughter of Zaffar Iqbal, resident of Shamir; and 65-year-old Saal Begum, wife of Mohammad Din.
