LEH: A senior officer said here on Monday that 2 policemen, including a sub-inspector of Ladakh Police, suffered serious injuries after they were “violently and brutally” assaulted by a group of miscreants.Senior Superintendent of Police (Leh) PD Nitya said a FIR has been filed against eight evading suspects under the appropriate sections, including attempt to kill, and special teams have been formed to arrest them. “A group of youths violently and brutally assaulted Sub-Inspector Mohammad Jani and Head Constable Ghulam Rasool from the Leh police station at a restaurant during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday,” Nitya told reporters in Leh. She claimed that following information about some adolescents fighting and causing a disturbance, the police had gone to the restaurant. But as soon as they entered the eatery, they were attacked, and both of them were hurt. They were taken to a hospital, and Rasool was later sent there for specialised care, according to the senior officer, who also claimed that Rs 10,000 had been approved for each person to cover their immediate medical costs.An FIR was filed against eight suspected people under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including one for attempted murder. The officer stated that special squads had been organised to make the arrests. According to Nitya, the suspects were recently arrested after being charged with attacking some Kargil-based taxi drivers. She urged citizens to warn the police of their whereabouts, saying that “all checkpoints have been alerted to ensure they are arrested shortly.”The event is not being treated lightly by the authorities, and she emphasised that anyone attempting to give them sanctuary will face the necessary legal repercussions. The injured policemen’s hometown of Kargil strongly condemned the incident, and political party leaders demanded that the offenders face harsh punishment. Feroz Khan, the chairman and chief executive councillor of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (Kargil), reported that he has written to the lieutenant governor, brigadier general (retired) BD Mishra, and spoken to the additional director general of police (Ladakh), DS Jamwal, to ask for their personal assistance in bringing the criminals to justice.Khan declared that the perpetrators of this horrible murder needed to face harsh punishment. Sajjad Hussain, a social and political activist from Kargil, denounced the event on Twitter, writing: “…Let us unite as a community to condemn violence against those who serve and protect us and work together to uphold the values of peace and safety in our region.”
