Srinagar, Oct 4: A shootout with security personnel resulted in the deaths of two Hizbul Mujahideen militants today in the Kulgam area.The confrontation began earlier in the day when security personnel conducted a search and cordon operation at Kujjar after receiving information that militants were present there. Basit Amin Bhat of Frisal and Saqib Ahmad Lone of Hawoora, Kulgam were the militants slain in the encounter, according to Additional Director General of Police for Kashmir, Vijay Kumar.According to a police spokesman, the Kulgam Police, Army (1RR), and CRPF together conducted a cordon and search operation in the region after receiving specific information about the presence of militants in the Kujjar area of Kulgam. He claimed that throughout the search, as the combined search group neared the likely location, the militants sheltering there opened fire on them randomly. This was efficiently reacted against, resulting in an encounter. Two HM militants were killed, according to the spokesman, and their bodies were found at the scene of the encounter.“According to police data, both of the terrorists who were slain were associated with a number of terrorism-related crimes. Terrorist Basit was involved in cases FIR 93/2016 under 147, 148, 149, 336, 332 RPC, Case FIR 95/2016 under 147, 148, 149, 336, 332 RPC, Case FIR 35/2021 under 18, 20, 38 UA(P) Act, and Case FIR No 55/2021 under Section 302 IPC, 7/27 A. Act 13, 16, 18, 38, and 39 UA(P) of Police Station Yaripora. According to Sections 13, 20, and 38 UA (P) of the Police Station Qaimoh Act, terrorist Saqib Lone was involved in Case FIR No. 41/2021, the official stated. He said that the scene of the encounter yielded incriminating objects, weapons, and ammo, including two AK series rifles.The cordon and search effort will continue in the region, the official added. “In this regard, a case has been registered in accordance with pertinent legal provisions, and additional investigation is ongoing,” he continued. Kumar praised the combined police and security team for carrying out the operation successfully and without causing any collateral damage. He also dubbed it a huge success. Meanwhile, unidentified gunmen shot and wounded a student this evening in the Watrigama Wanihama neighbourhood of the Anantnag district.A policeman said that a student at Wanihama named Sahil Bashir was shot by alleged extremists. He was transferred right away to a nearby hospital for medical attention. The entire area was blocked off shortly after the incident in order to find the perpetrators.
