BIG POLITICAL MOVE: Aga Ruhullah Quits NC, Announces Resignation as Srinagar MP

BUDGAM: Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Tuesday announced his decision to quit the ruling National Conference (NC) and resign as Member of Parliament from Srinagar while addressing a public gathering at Behisht-e-Zehra Park in Budgam.

Speaking on the death anniversary of his father, Aga Syed Mehdi, Ruhullah accused the NC leadership of betraying the public mandate and failing to fulfil its electoral commitments.

He said his differences with the party were rooted in ideological principles and political commitments, particularly the restoration of Article 370, protection of constitutional rights, reservation-related concerns and the release of prisoners.

Clarifying his stand, Ruhullah said his decision was not driven by personal grievances or disappointment over being denied any position within the party, but by his refusal to compromise on the issues on which the NC had sought public support.

He further said his objective was not merely to quit one political party and join another, but to build a new platform by bringing together honest, sincere and committed youth from Jammu and Kashmir.

Appealing to parents, Ruhullah urged them to encourage their children to come forward and work towards bringing positive change in society. He said he wanted to unite young people who understand the struggles of their homeland and are committed to public welfare and the betterment of Jammu and Kashmir.

His resignation from the Lok Sabha will take effect only after its formal acceptance by the Speaker. The Srinagar parliamentary constituency will fall vacant thereafter, paving the way for a by-election in accordance with applicable legal provisions.
