JAMMU, Aug 22: Electricity consumers across Jammu and Kashmir are set to face higher power bills from September 1 after the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) approved a revised retail electricity tariff for the Jammu Power Development Corporation Limited (JPDCL) and Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) for 2026-27.<\/p>\n

The revised tariff provides for an average increase of 6.83 per cent and will remain in force from September 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027, unless modified or extended by the Commission.<\/p>\n

For metered domestic consumers, the energy charge has been fixed at \u20b92.45 per unit for consumption up to 200 units, \u20b94.20 per unit for 201\u2013400 units and \u20b94.60 per unit beyond 400 units. A fixed charge of \u20b910 per kW per month will also apply.<\/p>\n

The Commission has retained concessional rates for BPL households and small agricultural consumers. Eligible BPL consumers using up to 30 units a month will pay \u20b91.40 per unit with a fixed charge of \u20b95 per kW per month, while agricultural connections up to 20 HP will be charged \u20b91.05 per unit and \u20b923 per HP per month as a fixed charge.<\/p>\n

Commercial consumers will also see revised rates, with single-phase non-domestic users paying \u20b93.75 per unit up to 200 units and \u20b95.70 per unit thereafter, along with a fixed charge of \u20b975 per kW per month.<\/p>\n

JERC has approved a combined Annual Revenue Requirement of \u20b910,275.72 crore for JPDCL and KPDCL for 2026-27. Revenue under the revised tariff is projected at \u20b97,854.94 crore, leaving a gap of \u20b92,420.78 crore to be met through government subsidy and grants.<\/p>\n

The Commission said recovering the entire revenue gap through tariffs alone would have required an increase of around 40 per cent, indicating that government support helped limit the hike.<\/p>\n

The revised tariff order also covers industrial consumers, EV charging stations, government departments, railway traction, bulk supply and temporary connections. The Green Power Tariff has been retained at \u20b90.50 per kWh over and above the applicable tariff.<\/p>\n

JERC has also approved the Business Plan and Multi-Year Tariff framework for JPDCL and KPDCL for the period 2026-27 to 2028-29.<\/p>\n
