Kulgam, May 14: In a major breakthrough under the ongoing \u201cWar on Drugs\u201d and Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir campaign, Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kulgam busted an interstate narcotics network and arrested a notorious lady drug peddler along with her associate during sustained anti-drug operations in the district.
\nAccording to police, the operation was launched after a naka party of Police Station Qazigund deployed at Churrat near Kund Mode intercepted a suspicious person identified as Shakoor Khan, son of Ahdoos Khan, a resident of Madenpora Delhi presently staying at Khanabal Batpora. During his personal search, police recovered approximately 6.9 grams of heroin-like substance from his possession, following which FIR No. 116\/2026 under Sections 8\/21 of the NDPS Act was registered.
\nDuring the course of investigation, police established backward linkages to an alleged notorious lady drug peddler identified as Rekha, wife of Mohd Suleman, originally a resident of Bawana Delhi and presently residing at Sangam.
\nActing on credible inputs and after obtaining a legal search warrant, a police team led by SHO Police Station Qazigund Shri Manav Dhanetiya (IPS Probationary), under the supervision of Addl. SP (Highway) Qazigund Shri Mumtaz Ali Bhatti (JKPS), conducted a raid at her rented accommodation.
\nDuring the search operation, police recovered approximately 8.4 grams of heroin, syringes, aluminium foil paper and stolen property from a specially concealed underground hideout beneath a bed, allegedly designed to evade detection.
\nPolice said that during preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed to supplying narcotics to more than 200 clients and peddlers across the region. She also reportedly disclosed that nearly \u20b925 lakh earned through the illegal narcotics trade had been destroyed in a fire incident at her jhuggi last year.
\nThe accused further revealed that some of her family members were allegedly involved in drug trafficking activities in Kashmir. Acting swiftly on the disclosures, police conducted another raid at Mir Bazar and apprehended one of her sons identified as Sadam.
\nPolice said further investigation is underway to unearth the entire network and identify all forward and backward linkages involved in the interstate narcotics racket.
\nSenior Superintendent of Police Kulgam, Shri Anayat Ali Chowdhary (IPS), reiterated that Kulgam Police remains committed to a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and warned that strict legal action will continue against all those involved in the narcotics trade.
\nHe also appealed to the public to cooperate with police and share information related to drug peddling and substance abuse to safeguard society, particularly the youth, from the growing menace of drugs.<\/p>\n
